I just got a new cat from Dumb Friend's League and she hasn't eaten much and hasn't gone to the bathroom more than once or twice. It's only been two days but it doesn't seem like she's really eating. Also we just use the dry food that the center gave us (I imagine they've been feeding her the same stuff). Is this normal?

I suggest that you take the cat to the vet.!!!
Could also be that she is still getting used to you, but i don't think that is the case in your situation.!!!

How old is the cat, if it's a small kitten it may not be the correct food for it, and if it's not eating or drinking it probably will not go to the bathroom as often as you would think it should. If it's an older cat it could just be the nerves of the move and being in a new home. It is normal, nothing that should be worried about. But it is good that you monitor that stuff and if it continues on for a couple more days then you may want to consider taking the cat to a vet or calling the center back to ask it some questions.

Give her a few more days before you start worrying. She's in a new place and is nervous, so she won't eat much. It's perfectly normal until she settles.

If she's an adult cat, I don't suggest switching to canned just to get her to eat. She'll eat when she's hungry. Canned foods are fine for treats, but can ruin their teeth if that's all they eat. The hard food helps keep the teeth clean. We have big problems with my Yorkie because she'll only eat soft food and has been this way since she was a puppy. She only has 8 teeth left and they have problems, but she needs them to eat so the vet won't remove them.

If she's a kitten, then she needs the calories and you might want to try mixing table scraps or canned food with the dry food to get her to eat. Once she's eating healthy, ween her back onto the straight dry food.

The cat may have contracted a contagious disease while being sheltered. This does not necessarily mean the cat's life is in danger, but it could be. Vet check is in order. The cat should have a much healthier appetite. It is possible the center wasn't using the best food either. You can discuss proper feeding while you are talking with the vet.

The cat is in a strange environment, she does not know you after 2 days, and is probably missing where she has come from, no matter how bad. You do not say if this is an adult cat or a kitten, adult cats are only supposed to have the equivalent to 1 tin of meat a day, so if it is a kitten then is is not abnormal. But even if it is an adult, give her more time! Put yourself in her place.

It is normal. Cats can go for a few days without eating, besides you say she has taken the odd nibble or two ... Poor thing is feeling confused and stressed; if you had another cat to teach her, she'd follow by example.
Right now, you need to let her adjust. Leave food and water out for her, and keep using her name, especially when serving the food. She'll come around.
You might want to entice her with a bit of freshly boiled chicken breast ... but if you were told to keep her on the same diet as before, just be patient.
(Cats can not only go without food for a few days, but can control their bladder and bowel movements too. Usually they do this because they feel unsafe; do everything you can to relax her!)

I would say your cat is not sure where she stands with you at the moment and is just being careful. Finding her feet so to speak. However if she is not eating anything or drinking any water and not going to the toilet at all she really does need to go to the vet for a check. Maybe she doesn't like the food they wer giving her

I bet your cat is so glad to be with you in her new home, she is probably waiting for you to come up with something different from the dry food. Try a new brand, or a totally different food, lots in the shops, or maybe just fish or chicken. Its normal for cats to get bored with food, they like a change just as we do.

Yea its normal because i got a kitten and it didnt go to the bathroom for the first week that i had it and it also didnt eat much. Its probably just scared or its trying to get uses to it surroundings. most cats will not do much the first week you have them but if it keeps on not eating or going to the bathroom then i'd take it to a vet.

offer canned food or foil trays suitable for her age.
make sure her bowl is clean and not smelling of any stuff - cats dont like that
same applies for her water dish
dont let food stay in her bowl for very long and get dried and ugly.
basically she needs some attention now until she settles and someTLC.
if still no luck see a vet in a couple of days

It may be that she's just not settled yet, but watch to see if she starts to lose weight, if she does then take her to the vets. If she doesn't she maybe raiding the bins for an early 3 course meal or has found that neibours food is nicer!
