I had one but it didn't work out, simply because I was holding back emotionally since I'm not sure whether or not the other person would be around tomorrow (it would be stupid for me to give all of myself to him if I don't have all of him to me.). Although we made out a lot, We didn't go as far as having sex though (although he always talked me into it). He said relationships shouldn't be a cage and it should have room for growth. Our commitment, according to him, was about growth and not exclusivity. But honestly for me, I think it was all crap. He was my first boyfriend back then when i was still naive. Now, older and wiser, I would not consider having an open relationship again.

How about you, what are your thoughts? What makes it different from friends with benefits? Can commitment really take place in an open relationship?

You can use the word commitment and open relationship in the same sentence and believe this could work...Committing to someone takes all of you, not some of you...Share in this case does not equal to truly caring for one person, emotionally and physically...Open relationship are doomed from the start, one should be able to give all of oneself to one person, not several, what a headache that can be...And heck it hard enough holding one relationship together without interference from others....
Friends with benifits...someone always get hurt in the end....

hi,,
i really appreciate the way u have put todays word problem in this form,,,
in this world were everyone is running towards love and away from commitments i think it doest.. work,, coz love or any relation needs commitment to take that thing to its goal...
everyone is running from that,,, so called commitment... though we run from this commitment but wants the other person who is in relation with u to be commited completely is't that unfair,,,
look i have suffered this one sided commitment in my love....
u dont get it from other side some times and the relation just slips down....
but now after that i have learned one thing define ur self what u r,,, and u should never be content with someones elses defination of u..

Just a thought , an open relation ship is just that no commitments no tyes, if you're there then you dont want no commitments so enjoy whatever you do until you, are ready for true commitment. just a thought , not advise.
