Labs tend to be "puppyish" until they're around 2 years old, so just remember to be patient and it's that cute Lab Puppy look that made the dog so irresistible in the first place!!

HE/SHE already is behaving. How do you want this dog to behave? They respond mightily to food. They're Insinkerators on paws. They eat anything put in front of them, (and a lot of stuff you wouldn't want them to). Training early is the key. Negative reinforcment works well. I don't mean pain, I mean non-attention. Get a clicker and try click and treat behavior modification. positive reaction gets the click with a small treat. Ignore(best you can) negative behavior. Patience, understanding and love worked best with me and Zoey. But I think she liked the treats best!

Puppies and kittens behave when they grow up. Some things can make them better trained for later, but basically the lab is just a baby and baby's do misbehave.

You and your boyfriend have to make a committment to train this animal. Dogs don't learn by osmosis, YOU have to train the animal and BE CONSISTENT. If you always take the dog out to potty, but your boyfriend says it's okay for the dog to potty on pee-pads, the dog is going to get confused. If you say the dog can't be on the couch, but your boyfriend enjoys the dog in his lap, the dog is going to get confused.
http://www.leerburg.com you can read/listen to podcasts about training your pup.
It's all up to the owners how the animal will behave.

Could we get more information? How old is the puppy? What behaviors are you having trouble with? There is such a WIDE range of things this could cover. More info then we could help more.

Obedience classes. Try your local pet store. They did wonders for my Jack Russell. Also dont listen to all the people who say he/she will grow out of it. If he/she isnt taught what is how to behave, then he/she will continue to behave badly!

Animals take after their owners. Anyway, all you can do is try your best at training it, with patience, of course. Be sure to teach the basic commands first: stay, sit, come.
