I would like to do a lot of shopping and want to feel safe returning to my hotel room at night. I have heard of Myeondong and Dongdaemun for good deals. I would like to buy womens jeans, LV bags, cute jackets, and a few mens clothes. I also need to do christmas shopping for my 2 year old which means... TOYS! Please tell me if you know where I can find one of these cool I-Rivers I keep reading about. Oh, and bootleg DVDs are a must!

OK, now good places to stay in most areas can be found on www.worldinn.com . You can't book through them anymore, but they still have good listings, just punch in the area and it will give you a list with amenities and costs for a room. Hot floor rooms are rooms without beds. A good place to get an i-river and bootleg DVDs is Yongsan if you are taking a taxi you can just tell the Space-9 and it will get you to the big market there, across the walkway and down in the parking lot there are dozens of DVD salesmen. In Space-9 you can find lots of vendors with mp3 players. I personally have the new i-river e-10, it is a remote control, mp3 player, text viewer, photo viewer and holds videos, on a 6 gig hard drive. There is also the u-10 and a much smaller version of it. Shop around cause they often have different prices at different vendors, I got my E-10 for $205, and my friend got her small version of the U-10 for $175. Remember when buying DVDs first ask if they will play in your region cause DVDs are region coded, and if it is Canada or the US that is region 1, and ask about quality. Whatever they tell you for quality take it at least one step down from that, and if you as they will often play it for you cause they have DVD players there. As for toys, try Coex, it is a huge mall, and has all kinds of interesting stuff you can get for kids there. Good luck.

when my mom came to visit, i tried to tell her to just stay in a motel, but she insisted on booking a hotel. honestly, the motels here are pretty nice and clean and like $40-50/night. they are all over the place, as the locals mainly use them for sex and not so much trips. but, they usually have cable, a fridge, nice bed and decent bathroom. maybe you'd prefer having a reservation etc. but if you want the best deal it's the motels.

everywhere in seoul is safe. there's not really much violent crime to speak of.

you will be able to do all the shopping you can handle in myeundong, namdaemoon and dongdaemoon. all the clothes, toys, dvds etc. will be there. no need to shop anywhere else.

Dongdaemun and Namdaemun markets are best for shopping...
and you can stay in the near by small motel.
There is nothing to worry about safety in that area.

Happy shopping.
