When I was a smoker 5 years ago, it was incredibly difficult for me to quit. I tried going 'cold turkey', brushing my teeth when ever I craved a cigarette, only smoking 'lites' etc. Nothing worked. Then my health started getting really bad. I got chronic bronchitis and had to use an inhaler!!! I was only 17 at the time and realized that smoking was not only stupid but horrid for my health. Around that time Zyban a prescription med. came out. I asked my doctor about it and he thought it was a great idea. The directions say to take Zyban for a full 2 weeks and smoke normally, this is to ensure there is enough Zyban in your system so when you stop smoking your body doesn' t go in fits. On day 1 I took Zyban, was my last day I ever smoked!! I took Zyban for a total of 3 weeks and have never gone back to smoking. I highly recommend it if you're serious about quitting. Good Luck!

I'm a 23 yr old male, and I use to smoke. I started out smoking when i was around 14-15 and I just recently quit In February of 2006. What you have to do is be ready cause your not ready to do it and try and fail your gonna automatically think your not going to be able to quit. So 99.9% of quitting is mental! You have to be prepared and tell yourself with your last cigarrette in your hand that this is your last one.. It really worked for me..I also noticed that I didn't gain weight..I watched what I ate. I weight a little less then when i was smoking. Also to divert from your daily routines. I would drink tea in the morning before work rather than smoke a cig breaks I would do crossword puzzles. After any meal I would do a crossword or brush my teeth or chew gum...What the hardest thing to do is to turn down a cig when your out at a bar/club, cause someone at my age likes to go out and feel good and end up having and urge..You CAN"T fall in the hole....I"VE HAD SO MANY URGES. Then I start to gag when I smell it! I hope my response is worth your time and can help! GOOD LUCK!

I was a smoker until my 5-year old son asked me when can he start. That was a turning point for me. Right then and there I threw away my Kents (remember them?) and have never touched a cig again. That was 28 years ago! Sure I still crave a cigarette after dinner, or while out with friends but I'm determined never to go back. The secret to quit smoking?
D-E-T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N. What's it worth to you? How badly do you want to stop, and do you really want to stop? The power of the mind is stronger than any craving a person can have. Think about it and decide.

I have smoked off and on for 65 years and believe me I'm still just one cigarette away from going after them again full time. A week ago just got stubborn and stopped for good I hope. If you are off cigarettes 24 hours you have broken the habit then it's just stay stubborn. By the way tobacco is more addicting than heroin.

I bought this little booklet called "Quitting Smoking for Dummies."
At the same time I started jogging every morning, taking supplements and eating healthy food. Now it's been 3 months and I'll never go back.

Hey there! It is quite simple if you are really serious about it.... After the first three days it gets easy.. associate smoking a cigarette with something digusting (for me it was worms). Break the cycle of smoking by changing your habits.. for example instead of having that first cigarette in the morning.. have a glass of juice or water. Have something like carrot sticks to chew..

1. Seek help from the clinic
2. Get rid of all ash trays in the house
3. Feeling the urge = chew gum or munch carrot or cucumber sticks.
4. Dun hangout with friends who smoke for the time being until you are strong enough to withstand temptation.
