You may have several problems, or it may be just your body preference.

1) You might have sleep apynea, its where you actually stop breathing while you sleep and you wake yourself up to breath and not even know it. If you think this might be the reason you will need to see a sleep specialist and they will watch you sleep for the night and test you. (The reason I think you might have this is my dad slept with 3-5 pillows, and he found out he had that, go the CPAP machine, which helps you breath in the middle of the night while you sleep, and now he only sleeps with 1 or 2 pillows at most.

2) Depending on your size, you may need to loose some weight when you sleep your body does shift up pressing on your diapram etc. thus making it hard to breath.

3) OR it could be a symptom of your asthma.
IF you are conscerned you should talk to your doctor or a sleep professional and they might be able to figure out why you feel unconfortable on less pillows.

Hope this helped

The more upright you are, the more open your airways are. This makes it easier to breathe. If you lie flat the tiny airways (bronchioles) tend to close up slightly and obviously if you have asthma it can be worse. As long as you're comfy sleeping with that many pillows there's nothing to worry about. It might be worth checking with the nurse at your GP surgery to make sure your inhaler technique is correct. She can also check your peak flow while you're there to put your mind at rest.

thought it said under my bed, was going to tell you to try putting them on your bed.
invest in a bed that you can sit up slightly in that way you wont need so many pillows, your airway will be more open and you wont wake with a stiff neck and bad back.
happy sleeping
