The problem with back muscles is that you don't know you over did it until it's too late. This is the terrible news: as you grow older, staying in shape, exercising and stretching out before doing heavy physical work is very important, you may even want to consider a "back jack", that you only tighten while lifting/stooping over, etc. If you get hurt on the job you have to remember if you crush a vertebrea or disc you'll have to live with that the rest of your life. An anti-inflammatory will help if it's just muscle sprain. Posture is also important, chin up, back straight, and basically every "comfortable" chair is bad for you, all part of the fun of getting older. (Or the W.A. response - the danger of doing a fat chick is a wrenched back, no matter what they say they all want to be on top before they're done).

It's hard to answer your question without knowing more; does the pain go away after a while? If it continues to get worse it may be a pulled muscle, which will HURT for a few days. Try this, lie down, pull your right knee up toward your chin, DO NOT curl up your butt to do this, pull more off to the side than straight back. BUT LEAVE YOUR BUTT ON THE FLOOR. Put that leg down and do it with the other one, hold for 10 seconds and don't force it, tell your back to relax while you are doing this. Then do it again with both legs pulled toward you. Start over. Do this 10 times, you will probably feel a lot better.

I have hernination in both my neck and back and what I do, is while in bed I stretch by touching my toes and holding the stretch there for 15 counts... while you are holding the stretch, you will feel those tense muscles pulling and it is actually some relief. I also use heat, motrin or doans for pain. At night I take Elavil for the pain to help me sleep. A hot shower with a shower massager is for quick relief.
You may need to see a doctor to rule out herniation, bulging disc etc.
I hope this help some.

Yoga and acupuncture I recomend. Acupuncture is expensive, but yoga you can do for free, if you get the books and videos.
You may try chiropracter, but get some good referrals. As with the other two, of course.
I used yoga and the exercises in kung fu, and later in the Army, to keep my back limber and relatively pain-free.
When I can't overcome it, I use a pain-killer called Naproxen, 500 mgs.

Probably a disk move, go to RX ray of that area and with this go to the Orthopedist, maybe you only need some relaxing pills and noninflammatory, and some therapy

Best ask your doctor this question. Anything from a pulled muscle to a slipped disk. Its hard to diagnose anything over the internet.
