Hey my Dad's cat was doing this weird massage to a blanket and biting it at the same time today, what does that mean? He is a male cat. Is that some strange mating thing that cats do?

Its called kneading. This behavior is a throw-back to when they were kittens, nursing their mom. Kneading on their mothers tummy, helped the milk come down, and it is a "comfort" thing for them. Sort of like a baby with a pacifier... it gives them comfort.

Kneading is a cute behavior to watch. Cats flex and extend their paws against a bedspread, the carpet, or a person, usually while stretching and purring. It's a very common behavior for cats, but no one has determined exactly why they do it. All sorts of theories exist. Some say that "kneading" cats were weaned from their mothers too early; some say they were weaned too late.

Most likely it's just a habit some cats develop, like people that bite their nails or crack their knuckles. What theorists do know is that it's a sign that cats are comfortable, happy, and relaxed.

This is what some people call "kneading" or "making biscuits". When kittens are drinking milk from their mother, they massage their mother's tummy and she gives more milk. When they get older, they often do this to anything that is soft and reminds them of their mother. When he bites the blanket, he's just looking for a nipple to get milk. It's bringing back memories of being a kitten. They usually do this when they are happy so it's nothing to worry about unless your dad doesn't want kitty spit on his blanket. I give my cats their own soft fleece blankets and they have fun massaging them.

He's just happy and going back to his basest instinct of kneading from when he was a kitten. Almost all cats continue this behavior throughout life, completely normal!
