Why do people reject Jesus in their life?
I ask family to go to church with me but they refuse and they seem agitated that I even asked them.

I am seeking advice - not debate

We are not born with the knowledge of truth due to our sin nature... we have to make a decision to seek and follow God. Our first tendencies are to ourselves.
People will resist God because it is the unknown, less comfortable.

Be loving, have integrity, be patient - that way God can do his greatest work through you.

Alot of people base their lives firmly in reality and would feel very uncomfortable carrying out supertitious rituals like, "Praying" and resighting non-sense from some ancient book.

This "jesus" you talk of was probably never even called jesus in his time (if he ever he existed) ... so already 1 billion christians are "praying" in the name of some translated name!

this jesus, who claims to be the son of god (i mean come on get real for a moment, please) ... this jesus will come and go just like all the other so called 'prophets' have done since the beginning of time... look at the ancient greek and egyptian "gods", no one worships them anymore.

In this day and age, claiming to have a direct line of communication with a supernatural "god" is likely to end you up in a mental institution or a church.

A quote for you:

When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity . When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion.

Robert M. Pirsig

also, *IF* church was really that fantastic and based around a genuine "god" then these people would not need to be asked or invited - they would go of their own accord.

James 4.4 says: "You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God."

People know that by following Christ, they are obligated to give up many of this world's desires. And a lot of people won't.

Also, John 3.19-21 says: "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Ask God to enlighten your family and friends regarding these.

Jesus has been rejected throughout the ages, because of His claim of who He was.

Jesus said, "I am the Truth, the Way and the Life." John 14:16;

"...if the world hate you, know that it hated Me before it hated you." John 15:18

continue to pray for all, no matter what, and you will have done as Jesus asked us to do. God bless you.

First of all, to accept Jesus in your life means an obligation to be a follower even when it's inconvenient. There are people who would much rather veg out than spent the time and effort to go to church. They become agitated when you ask them to give up their time to go to church on Sunday.

I believe that he was a great man, but no saviour. I have weighed all sides of the argument and made my decision. I would not refuse to go to church, there is no harm in it. But I could never believe...

jwpaulk: Yes, if only everyone could act as you do, Chistianity would be much more respected. It is sad to see people degrade the teachings of Jesus by using them as threats, or by trying to force them on others...

One of the things I have learned as a christian is the fact that we cannot expect anyone to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. We can only make the offer, accept their answer and then do something very surprising to them. Go on with our lives and our faith. Be a living witness for them. When they ask questions about the changes in you and your life, tell them why it is happening. Make the offer again and let them make up their minds again. Prayer for these people in a must. But, don't just pray for their salvation, pray for the ability to set the most Christlike example for these people. Don't take this rejection personally and don't let it dampen your faith. It is a wonderful gift that God has given us; this ability to choose for ourselves. It is each person's responsibility to do so. It is each christian's responsibility to offer salvation, not force it on others. As a christian, I do understand the frustration of having this wonderful presence in my life and wanting to share it with others and letting them become a part of it; but the final choice is theirs . Live your faith and let them see you do it; our actions not our words prove more than anything else.

Paul said that the believer is the savor of death, to those not of Christ. The world gets agitated because...they know, deep deep inside, where their minds cannot discern, that they are going to hell.

A person who hears the gospel is already categorized in the spiritual realm.

I am sure that many people would wish that the everyone would live by the teachings of love that are recorded to have been taught by Jesus... but few believe that he was more than just a great teacher. And they do not want to live by thousands of pages of rules and laws based on Judaism from 3500 years ago.

Many people feel that going to church isn't necessary. If you believe in God/Jesus...than that's all you need. You don't have to go to a church to worship.
Most people don't like to talk about 2 things. Politics and Religion. Those are such hot topics with many people. They know that you go to church, if they really wanted to go, they'd ask you.
I feel that churches are full of hypocrites. You seem to think these people need to go to church. It seems to me you think you are better than them because you do go. Weird!

I would likely reject it as well or if I was to go I would regard it as something that I was doing for your sake. I do not believe in the Jesus fable and, deep down inside neither do you
