How come old people smell like onions?

What causes that charactersitic smell of old poeple? I noticed this when I ride the bus in the morning and elderly people with me.

By the way, I'm not denigrating old people. Oh and I rarely eat onions myself. I don't care for them so I know it's not me. Maybe it's not onions exactly I'm smelling but it's the best I could do describe the smell. I'm not basing this question just on the old people that ride the bus but I used it as an example. In general it seems that old folks, have a characteristic smell. I was wondering if there was a scientific explanation for this.

I have taken care of a lot of old people and never smelled onions. Maybe the elderly people you are riding with have been eating them or something.
My neighbor when I was a kid smelled like candy and flowers or something like that. She was 80 yrs old and I recently smelled that smell again. It brought back happy memories. Her name was Sally.

Could be that they eat some onions or something like that , cause them to smell like onions or you could also
wait until you get to old and then ask yourself?

LOL well some people get older and they have hygiene issues, such as not soaping their body in the shower, not washing their clothes as often.

It makes senese, young people normally want to smell good, girls are slathering themselves with lotions, perfumes, etc, men are putting on cologne, aftershave, whilst many old ppl can have slight demensia and not remmeber, or they may just not care.

Some of the people smell worse and they're young! LOL. They smell of tobacco, marijuana, underarms, sweat, dirty feet, dirty clothes, garlic, bad breath from drinking, etc... Perhaps people no matter what age, forget to brush their teeth and floss before leaving home?

cause they usually like to cook alot and they like to use onions.
