I know the pain to, as my Dog is about 15 years old, and I've had him for about 14 years now. Every now and then, he seems like he is a bit sick to, and has a bit of trouble standing, but then, when I take him for a walk, he seems perfectly fine. Don't get me wrong, I plan on taking him to the Vet soon, or even sooner if I see something serious develop.

I'm also like you, worried that the Vet might tell me to put him down, and I really do love him, but if that is the best for him in the end, I will. And let me tell you, I ain't going to lie to you, I am most definately going to cry. I almost had to about 2 years ago, but every thing worked out fine, and even then, when I was considering it, seeing if anything happened, I hit a depression.

For some people, they are just animals, but for me, he is my best friend, and part of the family. So much, that I know that if anybody ever did anything to him, I would end up in prison for murder.

But yeah, take her to the Vet. It's the best thing to do. If a family member of yours was showing the same illness, you would take them to the hospital or family doctor, to see what can be done, instead of hoping that it goes away and let them suffer. Also, it might be considered animal cruelty if you let your pet suffer like that. If you really love her, take her.

I'm so sorry you're going through this - what could be worse than the suffering of someone you love?

That said, hon, GET TO THE VET PRONTO! Your friend is losing her hair and her skin is turning black? Honey, that is SERIOUS.

Thing is, if it's bad news, it won't be any better for not knowing what's going on - and what if the vet can help? The sooner the treatment starts, the better. If it can't be cured, then your vet can at least give your friend something for her pain.

I know how hard this is - we lost my best friend, my gorgeous dog, a year ago. I was terrified, and yes, I cried - and so did my vet. But you love her, so you're going to be brave for her and get her the help she needs, right? Because that's what love does.

Every dog lover has been where you are, honey -- we're right there with you. Get your pal in to the doc soonest. We're hoping the news is good.

Awww, I can tell how worried you are, and your dog is very lucky to have had you to care for her.

Please bring her to the vet and tell her what you have been seeing. There are several conditions that can cause what you are seeing, it might not be just old age. If there is something that can treat her and extend her life if she's not in pain, then it would be worth checking into.
If your vet confirms that she is old and suffering then you will need to think about what is best for her and not let her suffer. You know, lots of times older dogs slow down and aren't really suffering, so you may need to just get her a good check up.

Just know in your heart that you have given all your love to her and made her life good, and she has obviously done the same for you. If her time is near, cherish the thoughts that you had each other for 5 great years and you both helped each other. I know it can hurt, but if you didn't love her it wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately with dogs and their short lives, we just have to make a decision to love them as best we can and keep them in our hearts forever. I am a firm believer that our pets go straight to heaven and we will see them again. God wouldn't waste putting all that love into such a great dog if it was for nothing.

Take her for a check up. I wish you the best.

She might have some kind of disease. It's best to take her to the vet. Just make sure if the vet recommends that she be put down that it is for her sake (if she is in pain) and not out of convinience. (medicine, special care ect.)

My dog is 16 1/2. A few weeks ago she got really sick and everyone said to have her put down. She couldn't even walk. It ended up being an inner ear infection that through off her balance. She's fine now. She needs a little more care and attention than a younger dog but that is fine by me!

Don't be afraid of the vet. A good one is there to help with your dog's pain and health. They love animals and are professionals who have seen lots of tears. The losing hair thing can be dietary depending on the breed you have or nervousness. That is fixable. The black skin sounds like heart which can be medicated. The walking thing is probably arthritis which can receive pain killers for her comfort. A dog's lifespan is not forever. It depends on the breed you have , 10 -14 years. So get her some meds to help with the pain and make those years the best she can have!!!! Love ya!

First of all, I'm so sorry for your sadness and I'll pray for the little marshmallow!!! Aaaww!!! Poor thing! Anyway...back 2 my advice...I definitely don't think your dog is dying, because these don't sound like symptoms of a slowing-down dog (I had a dog that had a slow, painful downfall until we had to put him to sleep *tear*). I have never, ever heard of a dying dog with skin that is turning black. I really don't think you should hold off with the vet...in fact, now that I think about it, PLEASE GO!!! TOMORROW-TONIGHT-SOON!!! AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SAVE YOUR DOG'S LIFE (if that is the case)! WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU: BREAKING OUT INTO TEARS (not such a huge deal, at least to most people) OR POSSIBLY SAVING A LIFE OF YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL??? Good luck and I hope my poor *laugh* counseling *scoff* skills helped you! I'll pray for your little peach pie!!!

My heart goes out to you and I understand. My Meister was 12 and his skin started changing with age he had so many allergies too. Your baby may have a defiency due to age too that may be why the hair is thinning. I would take your baby to the vet to check it out and think positive for her. She's your life hon and you take care of the one you love. Right? My Pudge (Lab) has a lot of problems with his hind legs and the vet told me to give him ascripton for pain but at least he's taking something. Talk to your vet to help her. Prayers are with you and your furbaby.

I know. It's so unfair that they leave us so soon. It just seems like they should stay with us forever.
It's better to go to the vet and find out what's happening. What if it's something you can fix? You'll feel worse if there was something you could have done and didn't. Trust me, I know!
Treatment needs to start as soon as possible to be effective. Or, if you find out she is to sick to save, it's not fair to let her suffer.
I'm so sorry for your trouble. I wish there was more I could do for you.
Good luck, I hope everything comes out OK.

TAKE YOUR DOG TO THE VET ASAP I'M NOT JOKING. Your dog might need specail care and what if it dies from something that could have easily been fixed. I just wouldn't take the chance. I know what it is like to loose a good dog.
