went to JFK airport for an international flight to Iran stopping at amsterdam. when i got there i figured out that in addition to my american passport i need to carry my iranian one which i had left at home, so i postponed my flight to the next available one ( in 2 days) with a 200$ charge and returned home.
did i do the right thing? i could have gone to amsterdam and tell them that i lost my passport on the way, so at least they wouldnt charge me the extra 200$ and i guess it wouldnt take 2 days to wait. wouldnt that be a smarter idea?

I think you definitely did the right thing. I had looked into traveling to Iran over the summer with one of my Iranian friends, I am American, and I read somewhere that if you are a dual citizen the US government recommended leaving your US passport at an Embassy outside of Iran, in your case Amsterdam would probably work, and using your Iranian passport to enter the country so there would be no chance of your American passport being seized when you were ready to leave.

You may well have done the right thing, but consider: why would you need both passports? I would have called the Iranian consulate first, explained the situation, and asked for advice. Unless you definitely needed the Iranian passport to get into Iran, I don't see why you would need it at all.

why do you need the Iranian passport if you are a US passport holder. Is it because your US passport shows that you are Iranian and the Iranian authorities may hold you. do you not want to enter Iran with your US passport . You did the right thing. always keep all passport at hand. I have a US passport and a Swiss Passport. . I always use my Swiss passport and my US passport to get back in the US

You did the right thing to wait. Do you really want to get caught up in a bunch of drama for not having your other passport? That would be foolish and a waste of time.

You did the right thing. It could cost you a lot more in the long run if you had gone on without the passport.
