why can't i get a dial-tone?

i have an external modem. i have the filters on the lines. i was o the phone and it started to static and now i can't get a dial-tone.

look inside the jack and inside your splitter if you have one. Sometimes the metal spring contacts become dislodged from their guides and they short out. A small screw driver will assist in getting them back to the correct grooves.

check the wires, make sure all are plugged in and try new phone like..
