It depends on the type of aloe you have as far as speed of growth. If there has not been any in 2 years it is an issue of incorrect lighting. I would repot in a soil mixture made yourself. It should be 1/2 Miracle grow potting soil and 1/2 Miracle grow soil for cactus. Aloe does not like their roots in constant wet soil. They need really good drainage. You should only water 1x every 2 weeks. Place in a window that gets indirect sun all day. Early morning direct sun is fine. Aloe does not need nor like plant food.

Just about anything. Aloe, like anything else in the cactus family, is very resilient. You'll want to go with something that will allow for a lot of air circulation and place the plant near a window. you won't need to water it very often, only when the soil feels dry. Best you go with your basic potting soil with some minerals and sand.

I have found that sand and regular potting soil mixed half and half works amazing. Also, the plant needs to get plenty of air to the roots. I keep mine in clay pots with sand/reg soil, in the window and water regularly to keep healthy plants.
