Illegal immigrants, themselves, brought this issue to the forefront when they marched and protested and demanded rights and waved their flags in our streets last May. THEY BROUGHT THEMSELVES to the attention of the citizens of the USA! Suddenly, people started noticing the closure of hospitals due to being inundated with illegal immigrants who do NOT pay for their medical treatment. Suddenly, people started looking around and seeing the devastation of their towns and neighbourhoods with illegal immigrants over-housing residences and overburdening schools and causing the education of their own children to be degraded and their neighborhoods to become unsafe and squalid due to over-housing - 10 or more people in a residence meant for a family of 4? This causes safety hazards for purposes of fire and overburdens the sewer systems, garbage removal, parking on the streets, and lowers the property values of the homes in the neighborhoods, etc. Suddenly, people realized that the reason they weren't able to find work in occupations they used to be able to earn a decent living in, such as construction and manufacturing, etc. was because of illegal immigrants who were willing to work for far less and usually "under the table" for cash, which illegal immigrants are willing to do because then they don't pay taxes on their income. An American cannot work for that cheap, because they DO have to pay income taxes!

This is a hot issue right now because of the huge number of illegal immigrants in the country now and the fact that they are pouring in at greater and greater numbers daily. Previously, mostly only border states and towns were more aware of the illegal immigrants, but now they are starting to move further north and more and more states and towns are finding themselves negatively affected to a level that they can no longer turn a blind eye to it. Illegal immigration is DEVASTATING our great country and the time has come to put a stop to it, however we have to do it. The citizens of the USA have had ENOUGH and are no longer able to support the poorest of the poor from all the other countries of the world because we are needing to look after our own poor, first.

Logarithmic increase (each becomes a base for family and friends to come illegally), cumulative numbers, and limited resources with the baby boomers about to retire.

People are feeling the pinch more, particularly with weighing college and retirement, with no more company pensions and with social security having become undependable after a lifetime of paying in.

Also, it is because once you hunt for the information, the impact is overwhelming on things like schools and health care, and social services (sometimes through their children born here, but that is still part of the impact of illegal immigration.) It really made me furious when I realized that the media which is so sanctamonious about freedom of press and the public right to know, and holds itself out as a guardian of unbiased fact, edits such huge impacts to make them appear not to be tied to illegal immigration. They will discuss poverty, but not the percentage that came illegally.

The media is far from making this a cause celebre, they have been shovingit under the rug for decades. People were startled by the marches and looked into it. They then hold major events to publicize the facts, because without that the press won't touch them. They are there if you care to research them, however.

Actually until I moved to Mn. I was never effected in a bad way, I may have known illegals before and didn't know they were illegal.
In S.C. I new a lot of immigrants and they were very respectful, prided themselves on learning our language and worked harder then anyone I knew. Since moving here, I have to pay extra high emergency room bills to off set the illegals that gave false info and never paid their bill. The illegals are the most disrespectful and violent of our community, they usually only work in the spring and summer and get welfare and food stamps in the winter illegally. Mn. Dems love illegals some families are given $10,000 to buy homes. So maybe I am late, but I have a legitimate gripe.

We have had it with the law breaking illegal immigrants. They have no respect for our laws, going as far as to call them out dated, or even silly. They think they can march in our streets ( that is what woke up most of us ). They wave the Mexican flag on tv for the whole country to see. They are crossing our border at a rate of 2880 per 24 hours. They even get on tv, and say, we are here, we are not going to stop coming, and you can not do anything about it. They come here, popping out baby after baby, like candy from a Pez dispenser. And then want to know, why are we mad.

Somebody left the flood gates open. It has been an issue in border states for some time. It's about time somebody is finally paying attention. I thought Bush would never do anything about it. That was one of the key things I disagreed with.

Now all of the sudden people well away from the border are paying attention and wondering what happened. Hello? Where have you been?

The country is struggling with a lot of issues right now, and the media is making a killing off it. The more controversies, the more money they get so they will push this issue until people get bored with it, then they will move on to something else. Yes illegal immigration has been going on for some time but it is just now being glorified by the media and that is the sole reason it is such a heated topic.

I know you know the answer and that your bimbo act here is just that. But for the others who are too young to comprehend, I will just say that when the number got close to 10 million a few of us looked around and saw what was happening. Those people who live relatively free of illegal aliens don't know what they are in store for.
What is most shocking is how seriously young people take the baiting questions from nut cases like Alberto. They actually answer the question! People, you are supposed to make fun of him and his kind. He "gets off" on your "straight" answers. Sad that that is the only way he can "get off," but don't answer seriously. Pleeeeeeze.

Most of us,I think, were always aware of the problem but just looked the other way. But,when they started protesting in the streets and burning our flag, demanding their "rights" in a country they didn't belong in,it made most of us take notice in a big way.I think they screwed themselves when this happened. The problem would still have to be dealt with, but they really ticked off alot of people.

Because there's enough of them here now to actually put their stamp on our society. The White people don't like the changing face of their schools, their neighborhoods or their shopping centers. The Whites have it just like they want it. How dare anyone come uninvited (like the Pilgrims did) and try to change it now! And how DARE they offer options in Spanish! How could we possibly tolerate that?! I mean, just because they are spending their money on the same things I am and contributing to our economy why should they be offered a way to pay their bills? or order over the phone in their native language? I mean, we had to learn the language of the Native Americans when we immigrated here, right? Oops! My bad. Bad example.
