I celebrate thanksgiving to
1. Spend time with my family
2. To look back at my life and realize how lucky I am to be able to have a feast every year while some people are scrounging for food.
3. To give thanks for what I have and to pray that, at least that one day, The people who aren't as lucky find some hapiness

Officially, Thanksgiving is a US National Holiday but it is based on Christian tradition. A number of non-US and non-Christian countries and religions don't celebrate it. Some may still not even have heard of it.
Everyone has it in their mind Thanksgiving started in the 1600's with Pilgrims and Indians. To some extent this is true, but
Thanksgiving did not become an annual national holiday until President Abraham Lincoln's 1863 proclamation. Every President since has proclaimed an annual national Thanksgiving. In 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving from the last Thursday to the third Thursday in November, to extend the Christmas shopping season. In 1941, this unpopular move inspired Congress to permanently fix the date on the fourth Thursday of November.
So, Thanksgiving is truly an American Holiday, and more secular than religious since it was established by government.

this is thanksgiving,i dont celebrate it in m;y heart, but have to in my stupid family.I am Pagan and none of them are.they are all christians, and they celebrate thanksgiving and christmas witht that big smile on their face, and laughter through the whole house.and than when christmas comes, they come in their nice vehicles with all them big fancy presents, and i have to hear it.please do not report this, this is serious.and than i have to hear all the christmas music ,and i want to put on headphones but my mamma says no.i sit and look at the chair with my name on it,and than look at the table and it has food piled on it to the galore.in my heart i am asking?what is this christmas really about?if it is about christ than why all of the gifts, why all of the turkey?and why all of the christmas shows of rudolf the red nose raindeer and charlie brown's first christmas?and the true christmas show is the christmas story.but,i guess that is why they made the halloween up too.they put stories of christmas movies not even being what the holiday was about.People i have to tell you something, and Please do not freaking report this.i will tell you what holidays mean to me.these last two special holidays that so called people call them,is coming up.and every year i think why why should there be a holiday for?with all of this world of anger, the troops in Iraq, people i will tell you everyone needs a little good news today.for the ones that are christians,i guess you do have a holiday to celebrate,at least this time is the only time that you can actually think positive, with the war and stuff.but, that shouldnt be what being happy is all about.how can we be happy?with the war and everything going in Iraq?i mean seriously, have you all heard the news lately?they are thinking of executing hussain, and if that happens, than there will be hell on this earth.with the shites.i dunno, this world is just awful.i mean everywhere you turn there is violence.why cant ppl get along?everybody, thanks for the time.i hope that you all wasnt offended when i was saying about the christians.
may Peace be with you,
Ostara

I don't celebrate Thanksgiving. I am a Jehovah's Witness. The basis behind this is simple. Why only give thanks and spend time with your family on ONE day of the year, where the other 364 are neglected? We do not neglect them, and pray for our food everyday, not just one day out of the whole year.

It's a good excuse to eat good food, and to be happy with your family and friends.
