At times under stress, I have vented problems to friends. I try not to make a habit of this for obvious reasons. But is it healthy to vent every once and a while, and not just to a counselor or clergyperson? Sometimes I find that I am a good listener of others issues but then these same people don't want to reciprocate.

Very healthy!!!! Everyone needs to release some pressure, otherwise it will build and make you very cynical. If you don't want to see a therapist, and don't always want to vent to your friends, I suggest writing in a journal. This way, you will always have something to refer back to, and you can seen how you've organized yourself throughout time.

It is very healthy to vent. I have the same problem though.
No one likes to listen to my problems. You just have to find the right person to vent to. I cannot talk about my problems with my boyfriend or my family because they think I'm just a very negative person but if I don't talk about whats bothering me then I start feeling even worse until I have panic attacks. So I think you should look for someone who will listen and also give good advice. I know it's hard to find someone like this but once you do it will be worth it.

It's healthy to vent. Be careful as to who you vent to. Try venting to a qualified person. Most importantly stay safe. recognize when you may or may not need help from a psychiatrist or therapist or go into a psychiatric crisis.

Good luck.

I just unloaded on some poor guy called rainnorsn. I don't think it was too healthy for him, but I sure do feel better. If your friends can't handle the payback then don't be their soundingboard anymore. Come here and unload on the mean & nasty people. (just the jerks please) It works for me.
