Why? Because it's a DOG, not a wife. That's about what my life and health insurance combined cost!

Wouldn't it be a little creepy to get him cryo-preserved? Life is all about letting go of the things that you love. Sooner or later everything leaves us. You are going to have to learn to let things go. What would be the purpose of getting him preserved? It won't bring him back. The insurance can be very handy and it is not a lot of money to pay each month, and would pay off if something ever happened.

The $26 a month isn't obsessed - for a senior dog it can be a very smart investment.
Kudos to you, by the way, for adopting a senior dog!!!
I don't know about the cryonics part, though - wouldn't it be a better honor to him to take that money and use it to rescue another dog who might otherwise be put to sleep? Or donate the cost to a local shelter as a memorial gift? "In memory of..." sort of thing? Just a thought.

I understand the pet insurance, but not the cryo-preservation.
If he is 13 now, when he dies he will be very old. Even IF someday cryo-genics works, his body would be SO old. It would be like freezing a 90 year old. Who would want to come back to a 90 year old body?

My first thought is that there a lot worse things to be obsessed with! I'm with the others who say that when you love someone, it's understandable that you don't want to part with them. I know people who have saved the ashes of their pets, and if you want to preserve your dog, I think that's your choice, no matter what other people think.
I heard a story of a fellow whose wife had died 25 years prior. They finally learned that he had kept her body in bed and had apparently slept with her every night since she'd died. Creepy? Maybe. But who are we to judge? Do what makes you happy and what you need to do. Moving on with another pup after your dog passes might also be an option. Getting stuck in the past never served anyone, to the best of my knowledge. (Not that that's what you'd be doing, just something to watch for.) Good luck!

I love my pets too, but I don't think I'm that extreme. The insurance is a smart choice, but to cryo freeze a pet thats a little on the deep end.

You should let your dog go when it's time. There are SO many great dogs in need of great homes and it sounds like you are an owner any pet would be lucky to have. I don't think there is anything at all wrong with pet insurance though.

Many pet owners love their dog or cat SO SO Much. It's OK to have a big heart. Doing the cryonics .......I'm not sure about that.
I believe letting nature take it's course. None of us are ready to see a loved one or a pet die......it hurts bad. But we all have our time to die...even pets.

You are obsessed. Do everything you can to make sure the dog has a happy, healthy life. When the dog dies, just let the body be. You may have a weird feeling if you see your dog in an unnatural state. I would probably cover him/her up with a blanket. Just let the dead dog rest in peace.

you're in serious need of therapy. a dog is an animal..not your child...but some of you people are so disfunctional..you think these animals know how you feel and what you say...take the dog to another house...let them feed him and play with him a while...and the dog will be thankful to them.....animals respond to the food.
But you guys think you have to surrender your homes, cars , lives and money to a four-footed pet..because you have a need to be needed.....
with all the lonely, starving children around..you squander all that on a stupid dog.
Take your loneliness to a hospital...an orphanage.....your neighbor....call family services and become part of a needy family. ...How many elderly folks could use a friend?
How many would have deep love if you showed up once a week and changed a lighbulb, held their hand..shared a meal...people need you...adopt one.

Pet insurance is an awesome thing. My little baby dog, got hit by a car at 6 months and it cost a couple thousand on surgeries and vet visits afterwards... I think pet insurance is a good thing just incase anything did happen.. As for the rest of your question I dunno what to say about that
