I wouldn't nescessarily say I'm too polite, because well, they're strangers! When I was young, I waved at people in the car and played "Sweet or Sour".
I'd call myself a 5 of 10.

What would you say you are on a scale of ONE to TEN??

I'd say about 7-8. I try to hold doors open when possible, help them if they dropped something, and I always say my thank yous and my pleases. I'm polite but I am also not too trusting of strangers.

I think it depends on where I am, I generally dont go around with a perma grin and dont talk or smile unless I make eye contact. I am kind of shy with strange people and since I am usually busy I rarely get the chance, however in public I do say hi and smile at elderly people, I do not play smiley face with strange guys though because i am married, I am not rude but unless someone says hi first or smiles first I keep my poker face, my father when i was young used to say I looked like a mafioso syndicate when we would go somewhere. I would say I am a 5.......by the way I thought I would mention if I ever see anyone that needs assistance or help or looks in trouble I help cheerfully. I am very wary of helping men unless they are elderly or handicaped for safety purposes...........in kindness/politeness I give myself an 8.....but in being outgoing I would say a 2 so I figure I am a 5.

I meet new people all the time and at first they are strangers, but this is all to do with my job (nurse), so i have to be polite then, i am usually quite polite otherwise but it does depend on the situation.
You to me are a stranger but i hope i am being polite to you.
on a scale of 1 - 10 i would say 10 when at work and 8-9 possibly 10 when out of work depending on mood.

I'm a people person. It's just part of my nature... I'm always friendly, always give a friendly smile and am willing to strike up a conversation with anyone. I don't look down on anyone unless I'm given a reason that changes my mind. In other words, I give the benefit of the doubt. Although, I am always skeptical, but keep an open mind.... I would have to say on a scale of 1 - 10 An 8

Uh, I would say I'm between 9-10. When I'm out in public I will hold doors open for people, offer a hand if a person looks like he may need help and do anything I can (within reason and thinking about safety) to help out in any way. I was raised to be polite and saying thank you, your welcome, please and also to respect my elders, which I see is sorely needed today with the kids of this generation. But I'm always ready with a smile. I make sure whatever problems I may be having at home stay at home so I don't end up taking them out on people I don't even know.

I think you're confusing politeness with being friendly. There's a fine, but defined line between the two.

There is no fear of personal harm in being polite. It's the simple act of holding the door and allowing a lady to enter in front of you; or holding the door for another person following you into a public building. It's polite to look another person in the eyes as you pass them in opposite directions or as they are speaking to you.

A polite "Good Morning" doesn't have to lead into a conversation with a stranger, just go about your business. A polite, but curt, response to a strangers attempt at conversation is fine.

And you should always be very polite to strangers because you never know who they are or who may be in the same area with you.

A very smart college baseball recruiter I know says that he goes to a prospects school a couple of hours before game time because he wants to see how the kid behaves with his friends and the people around him who are not his friends. It's not always about performance and production, character counts!

really depends what kind of mood i'm in. if im in a good mood (most of the time) i'd say 8-9, but if im in a bad mood i can be like a 4. (i wouldnt say lower than a 4 becuase i'm a pretty nice person and would feel bad if i was mean to strangers)
