mansion and manor are interchangeable cause they mean the same thing
Main Entry: mansion
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: house
Synonyms: abode, building, castle, chateau, dwelling, estate, habitation, hall, home, manor, palace, residence, seat, villa
castle means 1. a fortified, usually walled residence, as of a prince or noble in feudal times. 2. the chief and strongest part of the fortifications of a medieval city. 3. a strongly fortified, permanently garrisoned stronghold. 4. a large and stately residence, esp. one, with high walls and towers, that imitates the form of a medieval castle. 5. any place providing security and privacy: It may be small, but my home is my castle.
palace means 1. the official residence of a king, queen, bishop, or other sovereign or exalted personage. 2. a large and stately mansion or building. 3. a large and usually ornate place for entertainment, exhibitions, etc.
so castle is more for olden times and it has a fortified wall with a moat. a palace is more for modern times and doesn't have a fortified wall nor moat.
hope this helped :)
