You better hold off or you are going to be seeing more than just neon green butterflies. And you may not be able to wake up and tell us about it.
Ambien
Pronounced: AM-bee-en
Generic name: Zolpidem tartrate
Recommended dosage for Ambien
ADULTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The recommended dosage for adults is 10 milligrams right before bedtime. Your doctor will prescribe a smaller dose if you are likely to be sensitive to the drug or have a liver problem. Never take more than 10 milligrams of Ambien per day.
CHILDREN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children below the age of 18.
OLDER ADULTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because older people and those in a weakened condition may be more sensitive to Ambien's effects, the recommended starting dosage is 5 milligrams just before bedtime.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overdosage
People who take too much Ambien may become excessively sleepy or even go into a light coma. The symptoms of overdose are more severe if the person is also taking other drugs that depress the central nervous system. Some cases of multiple overdose have been fatal.
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

I have taken as many as 6 but the answer is; if you're not sleepy than the buzz has just worn off, try laying down and you will probably fall asleep...cut back to an HALF tomorrow night and go to bed in 45 minutes regardless of whether you feel tired. I have found that half works, then when I wake up 4 hours later I take the other half. Saves from running your pills too low, same effect.

I sometimes have to wait an hour and a half before my medicine starts to work. Just sit down and do something relaxing like
reading or word searches. Or take a nice warm shower. Doing
these things always helps to speed the process of feeling sleepy.
I wouldn't recommend taking another Ambien though.I've done
that and it doesn't really help. It only makes me very tired in the morning and tired all day long.

Never, ever take more of a sleeping pill than the amount you were prescribed. That can be very dangerous, as 1. they are addictive and this can increase your chance of addiction and 2. you could not wake up afterwards. Sleeping pills are popular for those who commit suicide; there is a reason for this.
Just rest, watch TV for awhile, and it will kick in. My future mother in law is on Ambien, and it takes awhile to kick in, but when it does, it KICKS IN!

Do NOT take another one. In fact, you may wish to contact your poison control center to be certain taking two is alright.
It's dangerous to take too many sleeping pills.
