Well parakeets do require a lot of attention, especially in the area of clean up. But no they cannot survive the climates, should you just turn them lose. If you can stand it just a few more days, put attractive ad in newspaper, Free Parakeets, with cage, excellent gift for bird lovers. I wish you speedy results in finding them a new home.
Yes I agree with barrbou21, take them back, cut your loses, but don't destory the birds by turning them lose.

Please don't let them out side as they will die. You can't do that. Is there a Budgie(Parakeet )Rescue in your area? Check with your humane society they can help you find where to take them for a new home. I would try to train them as it sounds like they aren't hand fed. It takes time to train a parakeet. I have two and they can be very nasty. They are a smart bird. My Fritzi I have had for 11 years and she's as healthy as ever. If you got them from a pet store their wings should have been clipped. If you have a vet you couuld always ask them what to do. Try selling them in a paper in your area. That may be something more economical for you but don't ever let them outside because that is cruelity to animals..

This makes me very sad :(

I have two parakeets myself and I love them to death.

I worked at a pet store several years ago, so I learned a lot about birds very quickly, including how to clip their wings... so mine always have their wings clipped and I let them out of the cage to play and run around all the time.

One of them goes everywhere with me. He sits on my shoulder and goes in the car with me and dances to music.

I would recommend reading up on how to clip their wings, or perhaps the pet store can do it for you? The one I worked at charged a small fee for wing clipping.

Once their wings are trimmed, they are much easier to manage.

Work with them every day. Be patient. Don't make any sudden movements that would scare them, etc...

But if all else fails, put an ad in the newspaper to give them away, or take them back to the pet store :(

Please do not let them free outside. That is no environment for a poor parakeet. :(

Uh I'm sorry hearing that I myself do have an Indian ringneck parakeet but she is so sweet, i first cut her wings in a pet shop that was 7 months ago now there are new wings coming up but she'll never fly away from me, to tell you the truth she did bit me at first you have to show that you don't care about bitting even though you got blood on your hand because the parakeet will enjoy doing that if you are angry so cut it out for her.
leaving them outside is not a bad idea, but first let them be out with their cage close for more than two weeks then start opening the cage put a perch for her outside to stand on. then she'll will fly and return back hopefully. in that way the parakeet will be near you but not bitting you
hope that will help.

Do NOT let them go outside. They are no longer wild and would panic and would definitely come to a grisly death. They do not know how to forage for food and water, and will be picked off and torn apart by the first bird of prey that sees them.
I would take them in their cage with their supplies, and give them to a local retirement home. I am sure the residents would love them and they would get the attention that is needed to tame them. Then you do two good deeds: one for the birds, one for the residents. And you will feel good about it.
Some day we might be that resident in a retirement home looking for company!

well you need lots of time and patience with birds or any other pets as a matter of fact...they have to get used to being around you so that they wont feel scare and bite you. i currently have 27 birds (13 pigeons, 10 parekeets, and 4 cockatiels) and enjoy every moment i get to hang out with them....they feel pretty safe around me, too and i pet them with no problem...NEVER let the outside on their own...they could be easy prey or suffer and die during winter....put them up for adoption, or in craigslist...someone else would want them...for sure....

Hey I know what you mean I have one the same way but I've opted to keep Skye, but maybe you can contact a local school and see if there is a 6th-8th grade teacher who would like them for their classroom for educational reasons.

don't let them out. sorry to say that you are not having a good experience with them but if you can't tolerate them and they are still healthy take them back to the place that you bought them, and considerate it a loss on your part. 99% of the pet stores will take them back, even though you may be beyond your "test/trial period" it would be better to give them back and not get anything except a life lesson from this, than to set them free where they will not survive.
