I was once Christian, and know from my studies of the Bible that one person can read a verse of scripture and have an entirely different understanding of the text than the next person who reads it. So why do many Christians on this forum answer only with scripture without giving its context? It is rather confusing to those who may not be familure with the Bible, or at least that is my opinion. I mean no ofense by this, I am just wondering why some people do this because more often than not the answer that a person gives is so ambiguous that one wonders what the heck the person is talking about.

To thouse who wonder what I mean by 'once Christian' I mean that I am no longer Christian due to a lot of 'soul searching', as well as, contemplation. I am now what is clasified as 'Pagan' though there is no actual term or name for my religious beliefs. I did not follow the teaching of 'the Devil' or anything like that; it's just that I went looking for some thing I could say I truly believed in, and not just something I was since a child. If that turned out to be Christianity that would have been fine, but it was not, and so I am a Pagan. I believe in a Creator and I also worship Gaea. I feel everyone has a right to his/her own believes, because know towo people believe exactly the same thing; there will always be something they disagree on.

My guess is they can't actually explain the answer themselves, so they can't explain the scripture. They look to that to see what they are supposed to say and do, and post it.

I relatively agree. Whether you compromise or disagree with the bible I believe any one can get whatever priceless out of it. If now not for religion, it is a well e-book as a way to support you lead a higher, extra healthful lifestyles. I do not like quoting scripture considering that I have a horrible reminiscence. I can not ever bear in mind the books and the verses. But on best of a e-book of religion, additionally it is a historical past e-book. Jesus existed. That's a reality. So despite the fact that you reduction the miracles within the bible there's tons you'll get from it. But I agree that you simply additionally must exhibit you'll believe for your self with out watching like you have got been brainwashed via a e-book. My partner's father is a preacher and his entire loved ones will say "the bible says this, that is actual" with out considering why the bible might say that. They do not recognize that you do not must take the whole thing actually and that every person would get whatever distinct from a verse however eventually they're going to arrive on the identical conclusions.

Good question.
My belief is that they do not have any good answers. I posted a question asking christians how they can support a lifestyle described in certain scriptures, and gave reference so they can refer to the scriptures I am questioning, and read them in context. A whole chapter or book is just too much to post...
Anyway they just tell me that I am taking it out of context; that I need to look at the "time in which it was written". So I guess parts of the word of god are irrelevant to us today.
Then they like to give various scriptures about being saved, like that is supposed to be an answer.
I believe that all they want to talk about is getting saved. Do that and you will be ok, disregard the rest...
Well I am not that simplistic.

There is one who answers frequently in this forum who almost invariably gives a very long answer - all the context you want! I just sent him a personal note suggesting he will get more attention to his replies if he keeps it short. Several people have complained about his extremely long answers. Now you come on and say you want the long answers! lol. I hope W isn't reading this :) :) but I'm pretty sure he is.
In a personal encounter, it is good to go into the context. I don't think there is room for that here. Anyone can ask for more details by emailing the person who replied.

If I answer with scripture I try to explain, I usually do not though, Even if you do explain someone else may still get something totally different from it, I take Bible study and it's tough but I see mis-quotes ALL the time on here but it's just not my place to say...

the only answer i can come up with is that people forget that everyone is not really familiar with the scriptures and so they are trying to provide an easy answer to a question which really needs some explaining. i am curious to know why you said you were once a Christian, what happened?

I always use scripture and when it is only pertaining to believers I write that it is only pertaining to believers- If it is about something other than salvation- like a story in the Old Testament- I describe that- for learning purposes. I always try to stay in context of scripture- that is VERY important!

i believe somewhere that it say sin the bible that questions regarding faith can only be answered by appeal to God, so they use what is the supposedly the word of god to answer questions of faith ,being quite fimilar with numerous religious text it doesn't phase me but I understand what you mean , some one who is unfamilar with their faith will more then likely disregard an answer using straight biblical quote, I personally hate when they just use straight quotes and don't even elaborate, displays narrow mindedness and ignornace on thir part as far as I'm concerned

I agree with the other posts. Most don't want to actually have to think about it. They'd rather spout out their pastors answers to problems in life...

Many times individual verses are meant to be individual. They are meant to be analyzed and understood and applied to our lives. However, with the many questions using individual verses to say how Jesus believed in killing children, now that needs to be in context.
