The fan relay is contained in the Constant Control Relay Module, or CCRM. Look on the right side of the battery, there is a black metal box attached to the side of it with a metal strap clamp. This box, about 5 x 5, contains relays that control engine components, fuel pump, etc. It cannot be opened, and must be serviced as a unit. The next time your fan acts up, give this metal box a few taps with a rubber mallet or wooden handle, screwdriver handle, etc. and see if the fan stops when you tap on it. If it stops the fan, you have a fan relay sticking, and need a replacement CCRM.

Actually the CCRM can be opened and it is not too difficult to replace the relays in it. You have only to drill out the rivets from the corners and if you are handy with the soldering tools you can figure out what to do. Try it, what ya got to lose.
ewwww, make sure you unplug it from the harness before doing this.

sounds like you need a new battery and maybe a fan switch :)
you could bypass it temporarily and put on a manual switch by splicing into the leads at the fan and running them to a switch under the dash, then you can turn it off when you park, that's what I did on my Mustang

I think it might be the fan temp. sensor usually located around the bottom of the radiator. Just follow the cables. I would pull out the fuse for the fan for now and than when you use it put it back in untill you can have it fixed. My old Honda did the same thing

Sound like a heat sensor switch or temp control module. have the garage run a diagnostics test to pinpoint the problem . it could be 4 or 5 contributing items.

Take your Taurus to a reputable Ford dealership and have them do a diagnostic on your car and let them tell you what the problem is since private mechanics don't know a Ford the way the dealership would. It may be costly, but it's better to be safe than sorry to have some mechanic who can't explain the problem to you without some long drawn out dialogue. Dealership mechanics see every problem you can think of and know what to do for it. I suggest you purchase a warranty to cover parts and labor because my mom did it for her Windstar and it saved her $1200+ on repairs and parts.

I work with 12v and It could possibly a bad battery.Your fan usually runs for a while when the car is off.The only other solution is to make sure the fan is on an 12v ignition source.

Well, it's a Ford...that, right there, is your first problem. Ford makes the lowest-quality piece-of-crap cars on the market.
Answer: Although this is probably not what you want to hear, the best thing to do is to unload the piece of junk while you can still get at least SOME money for it. It's not worth fixing...it will just break again...and again...and again...it's what Fords do. So, sell it and use the money to buy something more reliable (aka Japanese car, like Josh L above mentioned). In the long run, doing this will save you money.

It sounds like it is your alternator and the battery is toast, and time to buy a new one, and have a Mechanic check your alternator and electrical system. It sounds like it is drawing too much power from your battery to through Alternator to fan motor. I hope it is a small factor for you otherwise it is going to hit your pockets books (bank account). You know the relay switch might be a problem too, which I never thought of in the first place, but have all your system checked out. However, you have recharged your battery too many times which looses its power juice, and will just die on you for good, so I suggest go buy a new battery.
