In the olden days there was generational curses and now the bible teaches that each man is accountable for his own sins. So therefore mankind should not in any way be under this type of generational curse. So further studying is needed on this subject. It started in the old testament. Thee are lots of books in the Bible Book Store on this topic for futher knowledge of this generational curse.

I have been exposed to the teaching that a curse that someone has brought on himself affects his family, his descendants... but that they can be freed from it as all curses are cancelled in Jesus Christ.
If you think of it, if someone has a venereal disease, it can be passed on to the children. You can't just live in a bubble: what you do affects others, and other generations. One of my grandparents was an alcoholic. One of my parents was also. Although I was not exposed to that parent. by the time I was in my early teens, I had difficulty with alcohol. I was responsible before God for my bad choices with alcohol, but it is true that I inherited the weakness. I was also freed from that through faith in Christ.
"I, the Lord thy God .... visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments" (Exodus 20:5-6).
I don't know if that is what you are referring to. I realize this can be, and has been, taken to extremes, leading people to practise exorcism in the silliest ways.

God seemed kind of fond of the whole "generational curses" thing:
Exodus 20:5
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
34:7
7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
