My cat has a crusty patch on her ear. About 1 week ago I went to out local shelter and they said that they had an outbreak of ringworm in the cat area so the public couldnt see the cats. I think she has ringworm. I have been putting ringworm spray on it but it isnt working.

Is there any remedy that I could use on her? I also think I have a patch on my leg and arm. I have been putting nailpolish on it to suffocate the ringworm.

How long till the nail polish kills it? I need some remidies for me too..

Thanks

Ringworm is a fungus. Can't suffocate it, it's anaerobic, meaning it doesn't require oxygen to live. Ringworm is a slay term, no parasite involved. Anti fungal Ont or spray, like tinactin, however it will probably require a prescription from the vet, and you a prescription from your doctor.

Fast Ringworm Cure?

I volunteer at a cat shelter, and there was recently an outbreak of ringworm due to other people not disinfecting after each cat. I too, have had a few spots on my arm. I used the clear nail polish effect, and it took 4 days and it was gone. It may differ for other people depend on your skin, but it won't take long at all, just keep at it. As far as the cat goes, you need to get vet assistance. Anything for ringworm you buy in a store is unsafe and unpredicatble for your cats health. It won't cost you much, probably an exam cost and med cost. If cost is an issue, call around to local pet stores and get a cat shelter/rescue phone #. Tell them your situation, and if they can give you a number for an inexpensive vet clinic. (they usually use one themselves) The cats with ringworm at the shelter are all medicated from vets. In response to some other posts- the nail polish therory does work, and it was recommended to me by my local vet, and shelter owner. The anti fungal creams work 2, but take twice as long . Your pick, and from my personal expereince, the nail polish worked like a charm & never had an outbreak after.

Ringworm is a fungus, not a worm. Contact your vet for a pill called Program. It was originally used to kill fleas but also works for ringworm.
For you: buy over the counter tinactin or other similar fungicides. Should take care of your problem.

Ringworm is a fungus, not a worm. It's the same family of fungus that athlete's foot is, and it spreads very quickly through the sebaceous glands in the skin. You need an anti fungal ointment to kill the fungus. Have your vet double check to make sure it's actually ringworm and not another skin condition, then get the proper ointment. If the fungus is deeply seated, she may have to have the oral medication. If YOU get the fungus, you can use Lamsil on your skin, but not on your cat.

Garlic is very effective against ringworm, both internally and externally. I had a terrible case of ringworm once, all over my body, and got rid of it by (yuck) eating a small clove of raw garlic every night before bed. You can also try it in pill form, but it's not as potent. I have never heard of using nail polish to treat it. Also, avoid being in damp, warm areas, like don't take long hot showers or baths until the infection is gone; clean your skin regularly, but not obsessively or it could make it worse. You don't need to see a doctor unless it doesn't respond to home treatments, by the way; you can, but you might just end up spending extra money. Buying a cream at a pharmacy could work; I can't really speak for that, since I had an allergic reaction to something in the cream that made it worse.

Yes, ringworm is a fungus. It's best to take the cat to the vet, and yourself to the doctor. I don't know if the over the counter anti-fungals would work or not. The name sounds deceiving, but it's not a "worm" at all. It's only called that because of it's appearance.

I have never heard of nail polish helping ring worm. Ring worm is a fungus. You need to get some anti-fungal cream from the drug store for you and the cat. If this doesn't help then the vet does have some anti-fungal shampoos to bathe kitty in but the cream should help. You also need to clean the house really well to get rid of spores that can live in your house a long time and cause recurrence. Be sure to wash sheets and bedding daily to also prevent recurrence and spreading.

You need to get some medication from the vet for the cats ringoworm. Are your patches perfectly round? That is ringworm. It is very itch and very uncomfotable. Go to the pharmacy and get yourself some antifungal cream. Apply it to the affected area(s) twice daily until the redness is gone. Then continue to do it for an extra week. My doctor told me to do this when I had it. She said that you do it for the extra week because of the fact that just because you dont see it anymore, the fungus is still there. Good luck
