Look in 2 Chronicles 21:2 for your answer....it's right there.Good question, though, it looks kind tricky.

you didnt show what version you used, yet i got this. when i looked, NIV. 2 Kings 8:26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel. 2 Chronicles 22:2 Ahaziah was twenty-two [a] years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother's name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.

Note; Athaliah was the granddaughter of omri; Ahaziah was king of Juda, but he reigned in Jerusalem for one year. His mothers name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of omri, who was king of Isreal (Isreal was part of the jewish state and had its own king at that time. At times there were several kings reigning from different tribes). Ahaziah was killed soon after being king-died at Megido. ....2Ch 22:2 states the same thing, make the same correction as above(granddaughter of Omri). He was 22 years old when he became king; Ahaziah took over when his father, Jehoram died. Ahaziah-also known asJehoahaz in Ch 21:17, also meaning Jehovah has teken hold. Here God's name abbreviated as Ya"hu follows Ahaz instead of preceding it.

2Ch 22:1-9 -
We have here an account of the reign of Ahaziah, a short reign (of one year only), yet long enough, unless it had been better. He was called Jeho-ahaz (2Ch_21:17); here he is called Ahaz-iah, which is the same name and of the same signification, only the words of which it is compounded are transposed. He is here said to be forty-two years old when he began to reign (2Ch_22:2), which could not be, for his father, his immediate predecessor, was but forty when he died, and it is said (2Ki_8:26) that he was twenty-two years old when he began to reign. Some make this forty-two to be the age of his mother Athaliah, for in the original it is, he was the son of forty-two years, that is, the son of a mother that was of that age; and justly is her age put for his, in reproach to him, because she managed him, and did what she would - she, in effect, reigned, and he had little more than the title of king. Many good expositors are ready to allow that this, with some few more such difficulties, arise from the mistake of some transcriber, who put forty-two for twenty-two, and the copies by which the error should have been corrected might be lost. Many ancient translations read it here twenty-two. Few books are now printed without some errata, yet the authors do not therefore disown them, nor are the errors of the press imputed to the author, but the candid reader amends them by the sense, or by comparing them with some other part of the work, as we may easily do this.

2 Kings 8:26 - Ahaziah was 22 years old when he became king. He reigned for only a year.

2 Chronicles 22:2 - Same thing...Ahaziah was 22 years old when he became king of Jerusalem and reigned as king for a whole year.

These scriptures are not rocket science. It's simple & 2 the point.

The answer is obvious. When Ahaziah was 22 years old, he was also 42 years old. God bent the fabric of time space to give Jerusalem a king with both wisdom and youth. They needed someone who had drive and experience. God always provides for his people. Believe me, his mother was equally confused about the matter. Just remember that if you doubt god, you'll just end up confused and mothering a 22 year-old 42 year-old king.

Mine says he was 22 in both books. It also says Athaliah was the granddaughter of King Omri.

Wow. the Watchman really knows his stuff. I looked it up too like everybody else, and in my NIV it lists 22 as the age for both of them. But is also says in the text notes that the Septuagint and Syriac manuscripts do say 42 for the 2Chronicles reference.

But Watchman is right. If you have a list of ancient Jewish kings listed chronologically in your Bible, you will see that there are not just two but THREE kings (just in time for Christmas...lol) named Ahaziah in the history.

In some manuscripts a number is not complete. Copy errors of this sort were extremely rare in the Old Testament, due to the extreme care the scribes took. And they only affected insignificant details like that. There are more problems inthe New Testament, but with so many manuscripts, it is generally easy to find what the original said.

Read, study and do the math and discover the truth as the book has seen much.

He king Ahaziah, was young, so 22 is correct, 2Ki.8:26; he left behind a baby boy that was hid 2Ki.11:1-3; until he was age 6 to 7, and Athalia the queen was killed when he was age 7, and the son became king. With assistance from the priest.
This is why things are given in the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses, if there is an error, when all things are considered it can have a solution.

There are minor details that we don't know for sure what to make of it. A scribe may have made a typo on his copy. In this case the original says "he was the son of 42 years" and many believe that the years refer to his mother not him as we know his father died at age 40. So this may be referring to her not him.
