Nope, unfortunately anyone can add to the pet over-population problem.
Before you breed (if you were gonna), contact the rescue group for the type of dog you're interested in, you will be shocked and amazed at how many homeless "pure breeds" that are in shelters.
Volunteer at a shelter. They'd love to have you, and you will see the reality of animal shelters. I learned so much. Don't worry, they don't have volunteers euthanize the pets.

You should, it takes a lot of money to breed dogs, you barely break even if you do it right. If you do, do it right.
Over 90% of dogs and cats are put to sleep yearly.
Why don't you rescue them and find some amazing dogs new homes!
Because in the end, it is all about the happiness of the dog.
I wish you well.

Depends on where you live. Here in PA it goes by how many dogs you have. If you have over 26 you are required to have a breeders license and a kennel license. If you want to be a reputable breeder I would anyway It would be a great benefit to your customers when purchasing puppies.

I'm so glad to see that so many of the people who have responded gave the same answer I have. Why would anyone breed any kind of dog when so many are euthanized simply because there aren't enough homes for them all??!!! For every dog born and bought, another is killed in the shelter, SHAME ON BREEDERS AND IRRISPONSIBLE PET OWNERS!

Sadly, it is not required. That's why when people go in search of a breeder to buy a puppy, they really need to do their research on the breeders they are considering to make sure they're not dealing with some idiot who doesn't have a clue and didn't bother to properly care for the litter.

depends where you live..
in some areas YES you are required by the city or county to have a BREEDERS permit.. (or kennel permit)
in order to be a good breeder a person should have taken BOTH parents to shows to prove they are excellent quality for that breed worthy of passing on their genetics AND been checked by a vet for soundness
you can be accredited by a kennel club in your country
I guess it depends on if you want to be a good/reputable breeder or just some scum who exploits his or her unfixed dogs to make more puppies

If you have to ask, the answer is "You shouldn't be breeding."
There are too many dogs killed every year already because there aren't enough homes for them.
Don't contribute to the problem. Get your dogs spayed and neutered.
