I am 20 and an "only" child (I have a sister who was adopted by my moms second husband because our Dad is mentally ill and said he didnt want her) and my father is schizophrenic. When I was 17 he went off his medicine and ended up in the state hospital eventually. Since he was released, he hasn't been looking for work. He says he can't work because of how the medicine has affected him, but I don't buy it. He held his last job for a few years. He hasn't worked and is trying to go on disability. He has lived with his parents for quite some time, even when he worked, because his medicine needs to be monitored. I know his parents (both nearly 70) wont be around forevor, and I will need to care for him. Anyhow, my question is, should he work while filing for disability? I intend to own a business one day as an Image Consultant and may just have him help me with minor tasks like filing and envelope stuffing etc after that. He is in his mid 40s. Thanks!

He has a doctor who sees him, but when he is checked into the hospital I do not believe there is a policy to help them file for disability. At first his mother was helping him file, and now his sister is.
