If you are going to The Garden, fly into Newark Airport,
• Take AirTrain to Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station.
• At Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station, take a NJ TRANSIT train to New York Penn Station, which is underneath MSG
Adult One Way $14.00
Good Hotels near the Garden:
The New Yorker, Hotel Pennsylvania

You can fly into any one of the three area airports and be withing about the same distance to midtown Manhattan, where MSG is.

Newark Airport - in New Jersey - close but probably the most expensive trip to/from the city

JFK Airport - farthest airport, but there are flat fares for taxi rides into the city

LaGuardia Airport - close and probably the least expensive taxi ride into midtown

For hotels - there are plenty of hotels nearby, or within easy walking distance. I do NOT recommend the Penn Hotel across the street, it is a total dump. Depending on your budget, you should look into hotels a little closer to the Times Square area and it will just be a short walk/cab/train ride to the Garden.

If you go to hopstop.com and then type 'madison square garden' for maps, you can get nearby hotels.
