Gambling almost always wreck family, because gamblers think
they can win the next gambling bet. Always think of investing, people may not make lot of money at first but they will in a length of time. Save money and invest wisely , that is the motto. Go to library and read a lot , ask questions in Yahoo and Goggle, join Investment club and ask them questions. With all new ETF s one has all kinds of defensive and hedging technique to get over the dreaded bear market. Any sensible guy will make money in Bull market so the smart guy has to ride Bear Market without losing the shirt.

It can be devastating, and similar to the effects of other addictions, but maybe more financially devastating.

Yep, in some ways, it's worse than alcoholism. Some alcoholics can still function & provide for their families. Gamblers will put their families on the street, if they don't get thrown out first.
