Safety is a concern, but I also want to know if the electric turkey fryer holds up as the gas fryer does. Pros and Cons for both please! :-)

I've never used nor even heard of an electric turkey fryer, but I can say that my gas fryer turns out one hell of a good bird. They are dangerous though. Definitely only to be used outside - not in the garage. And always turn the flame OFF as you slowly dunk in the fowl. When the rolling oil starts to calm down turn the flame back on. Check out Alton Brown's episode of "Good Eats". He goes a little overboard with his safety demonstration but he's informative and entertaining.

I have a electric turkey fryer and so does a friend of mine. My timer went out and the manufacture does not offer any replacement parts My friends coil went out and no replacement parts available. They work well for a while.

I would say gas. The main reason being that gas cooks faster and hotter than electric. Though gas has it's disadvantages (burning food very quickly on a stovetop), when cooking with oil, it will yield better results than electric.

I watched my neighbors house go up in flames due to a turkey fryer and spurting flaming oil outside.

They should be banned as unhealthy to eat and unsafe at any time

I personally believe that a turkey should be cooked in an oven so the aroma will go thru the house and bring more holiday cheer.
