Very common in a breed. Males generally start lifting their leg after maturity. BUT, many do not. Also, if they are neutered before they learn this technique, they probably won't start, either.

Nothing is physically wrong with your dog, it's just his preference.

I have a male Maltese. He is nine months old and neutered. Some times he lifts his leg and some times he doesn't.

We had a black Lab mix (male/neutered) he never raised his leg. He tried and always lost his balance. A 95 pound dog squatting to pee. That was a sight. One time he was trying so hard to lift and pee, one of the other dogs kind of got under him to look. When he did.............Yep, the big guy peed all over the other dog's head. I could hear them laugh out loud. It was cute.

Hello, age has something to do with this sometimes. So not Knowing it's age I'm going to guess that the do is a puppy or young adult OK. This is common with young males and it will end when it reaches puberty. about 2yrs. Yes dogs reach maturity also. If the animal is an older creature then it could be a weight problem or hip problem. If this is the case see your local Vet. Hope this helped. The long hair that they have can also cause this problem.

My male yorkie didn't start raising his leg to pee until he was older... Actually when he is inside he still squats, and when he's outside he lifts his leg... So no need to worry! It's normal. Good luck!

Is he just a pup? My little guy didn't learn to lift his leg until he was 6 mo. old. Usually if you get them neutered before they start to lift their leg they will never lift it and will always squat to pee.
