My most compelling reason for me to believe Islam:
In 2002, my Roman Catholic Christian grandparents were murdered by their own Roman Catholic Christian sons and daughters. Those animals were never arrested by the authorities because the Roman Catholic Church protected those animals. I was Christian at that time and my fellow Christians did not even lift a finger against those animals.
I renounced Catholicism and Christianity after that, left my home and converted to Islam in 2004. Never regretted my decision.
I believe in Allah (SWT) and Islam and my fellow Muslims because they showed me kindness, respect, honesty and true brotherhood compared to the 33 years of bigotry, lies, prejudice and hatred I experienced while I was still a Christian.
That is my compelling reason for me to believe Islam.
And frankly, I don't care whether you think this is sufficient enough reason for you.

Sorry to bust you bubble, but that ain't so.
The quran states ;
2:256 There is no compulsion in religion, for the right way is clearly from the wrong way
Now that's why I won't compel you into believing what I believe but would rather tell you;
4 I shall not worship that which ye worship.
5 Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
6 Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.
(109. al-Kafirun)
Also, you said,"Every Muslim knows that leaving Islam means losing ones entire family, at the very least (being killed otherwise)." . That's not true. The popular and correct opinion is that leaving Islam is a personal choice, treason is what is punished by death. Read more:

I don't quite know where you "learned" about why Muslims follow their religion but from my experience I shall tell you that I follow my faith out of true conviction. It brings me comfort, is practical, convincing, and the guaranteed path to salvation. It's simple and straightforward. It influences me as a student, daughter, female, citizen towards a balanced healthy life. I've learned about other faiths but none offers complete compatible way of life that doesn't clash with logic like Islam. My faith completes me and the only form of guidance that actually sets well with my entire being.
I wish to live a Muslim and die a Muslim, and it's entirely my choice. Not all people see Islam the way you do.
Don't join Islam, just try to open up and understand it without prejudice and arrogance.

Because a person can find peace in knowing that there is only one mighty god. He is the same god that Christians and Jews worship. Except that the Islamic belief is that since the Lord almighty is the sole powerful entity, God does not have the need for children or other peers. We Muslims accept the idea of only one god, because we are taught that it is the truth. Christians think that Jesus is god because they were taught it was the truth. Stay with people from another faith and they may convince you to follow their faith, especially when Christians convert to Islam. Because there is too much immorality in the western world, one might consider converting to Islam for the sake of living an easier and peaceful life. But Muslims do not convert to Christianity even if they are bothered by the extremeism, their faith is seldom shaken because they do not believe their faith wrong and they wouldn't give it for the world. There is no real specific answer to this question for it only boggles the mind even more.
All I know is that Judaism came first, then God sent his words of the Bible to Jesus Christ for him to preach it, the true Bible stated that A prophet named "Ahmed", the last messenger of God, is to come and preach a new way of worship since few people believed Christ's preaching, after that Islam came, ehich means that the three religions complete each other, so Christians who convert to Islam have some knowledge of the Bible and it's preaching of a new religion, so they want to ascend to it. That is way it is the true faith.
I'm sorry if I haven't given you any new information...

Well its not about why someone would join. You cant just ask someone why they joined a religion. Its all about faith and belief. And if your asking this question to see why it would be compelling for you to join this religion, i wouldnt. If you cant see something to believe in, in a religion, there is no point to join it. If you cant believe you can never really be a part of that religion.

Ethically, islam is the next step up from Christianity in the eyes of many...
In my eyes, Islam is an improvement, but I think no religion has reached the climax of good philosophy yet...
Plus let's not forget that thing that Islam and Christianity have in common, the threat of Hell after death...

No way. It was never a correction of Torah or the Bible. It is just a misinterpretation (according to Jews and Christians). I can understand and accept what you believe but I can never accept that as mine. God revealed himself as a Trinity and that will never change because it is the basic truth of the Bible. I will end with a question - When exactly was the Bible misinterpetated ? Because from Christ's birth and on, the christians believed him as Son of God. That is what He said, what his apostles proclaimed, and every single christian in the world. And the anti-christ is the one who believes that Christ isn't the son of God.

what ramsey said is not true. as a matter of fact thank you very much for asking the question. it shows that you are not being ignorant by believing what media or others say. i follow islam and believe its true because it is very unique and diffrent from other religions. please dont mind what i write im just giving you my thoughts and opinion. for example christians believe that jesus is god/son of god/ you have to go through him to get your message to god. for muslim there is noone between you and your lord not even prophet muhammad(pbuh). islam guides us through out everyday. religion is our main focus that guides and gives us steps to becoming better. for us religion comes first, well allah(god) that is. i dont find islam violent at all, i think there are some people who dont follow islam the way it is and make it look violent and extreme. but its not. i hope i answered you and that you understand me and thank you for taking the time to posting this question and for reading my answer. i tried very hard to make it brief and short as possible. may allah help us all.
btw to everyone- allah is the arabic word for god,so it would be very nice if everyone respects that fact and not make fun of it cuz its like making fun of god in general. thanks.

This is the truth as ~I~ see it. (With the I emphasized.)
It's my opinion.
#1- Because I believe that there is no god, but The One GOD, the god that promotes good (promotes people doing things that are good for themselves and their fellow man), the omnipotent god, the omnicent god, and the god of all man (including Jews and Christians).
(The reason that I believe in god, period, is because of the many good things that have happened on this earth.)
#2- There are good Jews, good Christians, and good Muslims.
(Islam says that there is a place in heaven for Jews and Christians and it says that even if you don't believe the same as others (even Buddhists, Hindus, Atheists, etc.), then you should still treat them with respect and shouldn't harm them.)
#3- I think that it makes more sense than Judaism or Christianity. (Again, my totally biased opinion.)
Thanks for listening.
Good luck with your question!

It's not mine or anyone's duty to convince you to join Islam. I can endlessly go on of the beauty of Islam and all its truth. If GOD himself will not will to GIVE you FAITH in him, then it is impossible for mere humans to do what your asking us to do. If GOD himself doesn't will it then I can't help you, only GOD can.
I say this because, even though you studied Islam thoroughly, you still remain to be to this day blind to its magnificence. I'm kind of surprised, that's why this led to say what I said, it's truly astonishing.
