The government is on our side. The majority of the people are on our side. Isn't this war over? I mean, in every way you look at it, we won. At this point there is still something similar to war going on, but it's a civil war--Iraq agains Iraq. We just seem to get caught in the crossfire. In my eyes, this war is over and we won, right? Wrong?

Absolutely correct, buddy. Exactly the same as Vietnam, declare victory and then pull out. But there's still victory in Iran and North Korea, yet.

Actually no, the government is split, many want to send more troops in, others want to let it stay the way it is for a while,
And most beleive that we should bring the troops out, but not till Iraq can defend itself first.

And no the majority of people are not for ending it, It is split on the last polls almost even, Not exact figures, but some wanted to pull all troops out now ( small percentage)
others wanted a timed pull out
some wanted to leave it as is, and some wanted to send more troops to win the war completely.

Those wanting some type of pull out and those wanting to finish and win the war were split almost even.

And it is not about winning, it is about making the area secure so that Iran does not move in and take over

Well if you call bieng in the " Triangle of Death" as its curruntly called where many troops are in Iraq over then SURE!!!! But from seeing civilian and military sides civilians think so but as a recent vet and wife to a injured Iraq vet and roomate to a currently deployed soldier its definately NOT NOT NOT over. there is alot going on there that you will NEVER see ot hear on the news. It'll will be a long time until it's really over and even longer until the troops all come home if ever.

Excellent Question! I agree 100%.

We won the war, the rest is up to Iraq. You would never hear it that way though. Trying to police a country with inner turmoil doesn't count as fighting a war any more than restoring order in one of our big cities gone mad - like the riots of the '60's.

You don't get it do you? The War is not over, we have A bunch of countries to deal with. Iran, No. Korea etc. I can't believe you morons can't see why we are fighting this war! We are in the process of building bases in the middle east! so we are capable of having troops on there doorsteps. Better there than here. I'm a retired Marine with 30 years and I get it!! Why don't you? Signed MGYSGT WOODALL (Retired)

american presence in the middle-east will manifest terrorism in a form that we can combat offensively rather than on their terms. essentially the war is not over, rome wasn't built in a day (but i wasn't on that job). terrorists are smarter than what we give them credit for (probably the only non human form that has the capacity for intelligence). its going to be rough to cement a democracy in a region constantly baraged by violence and islamo-fascism. since the people have no concept of a world without violence and oppression, they cannot grasp the concept of freedom and toleration. as americans we simply have trouble identifying with this. because of this it is increasingly difficult to win over the people in iraq. democracy cannot be set up in a day. although down the road the people of iraq will be much better off because of american intervention, the iraqi people have not yet truly felt the benefit of self-government.

people are so ignorant these days that they will believe whatever the American media/government will tell them. how do you know that the majority of the Iraqi people are on Bush's side?! there is an estimation that around 50,000 civilians (women, children, elders..) have died since this war started. we came into this war to find WMD. We did not find any, there WAS NONE. Bin Laden caused a "War on Terror" set by the USA. He wasn't from Iraq, he was from Afganistan. So, in my opinion we LOST the war and respect from the world.

IUDs, sniper fire and outright fire fights do not constitute "getting caught in the cross fire."

The war will be won when we turn the security over to a well trained and capable Iraqi militia.
