I am very interested in getting involved with this program but have no clue where to start. Does anyone know? Are any other parents involved or passionate about this topic? What do you feel about even drinking around children? I'm just curious! Thanks!

You know what? Who ever is going around giving me a thumbs down to every question I ask--you are weird and need a life. I'm sick and tired of this and it should not be tolerated by Yahoo. I understand if someone disagrees but you know--at least have the nerve to talk to me about the issue OTHER then just being petty.

You should look up MADD on line...they can tell you. I don't drink, I have never had alcohol in my life, my husband is an alcoholic who has been sober for 22 years. We do not allow alcohol in our home, even for adults.
People say if you don't let your kids drink at home, they will do it elsewhere and it is bull. Your children will simply drink at home AND at parties. It is against the law for children under 21 to drink alcohol....parents should not give their children permission to break the law.
My in-laws drink, several of my friends drink, and provided they don't drive (or barf in my car) I have no problem with that.
It takes a child under 21 much less time to become addicted to a substance than a fully matured body....as little as 6 months.

The reason the legal drinking age is 21 is because you haven't fully developed biologically, and the long-term consequences of drinking before your brain is completely cognitively developed include poor impulse control and emotional/cognitive instability... not that it stops idiots from binge drinking and drunk driving. This last bit has little to do with the law but more with the mindless self-absorption and entitlement attitude typical with your age group and well-evidenced in your question. Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a special interest group. There are other special interest groups centered on spiritual identities, socioeconomic status, and so forth. They propagate their memberships based on these identities; the Black Panthers don't spend their time recruiting at Nascar events, nor do anti-abortion groups recruit at pagan gatherings due to the prevalence of leftist thought at these gatherings. Apparently some people's children need to have these things explained to them.

I'm very passionate about this topic; i think anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car after drinking is a potential murderer.
As for drinking alcohol around kids, well it depends on what the context is. If it's once a year at xmas, when the whole family is together, that's ok i spose.
But if it's everyday, binge drinking that leads to physical and emotional abuse, then ofcourse kids shouldnt be subjected to that.
Hope that helps you.....
PS;Don't worry about those people who give you the thumbs down; it just inflates their tiny little ego's to criticise someone.

Kudos to you, that is awesome that you want to be part of such a wonderful organization. There need to be more people like you in this world! I personally do not agree with drinking around kids. I don't see the harm in having a glass of wine with dinner, but more than that, no way. They don't need to be exposed to that.
