If one were to become a Christian where would he/she start? Are there any good websites to visit? Is going to Church mandatory or can you just simply believe the Bible and about Jesus and go to heaven?

The first thing you should do is to pray. You need to ask God for forgiveness for all of the bad things(or thoughts)you have done-this is called repentance. You not only need to say sorry but turn away from them.
Also you need to start to read the Bible. At first you will probably think that it is too hard to understand but stick at it.God will open your understanding. If you buy a little booklet called daily bread or something like that.It has small verses from the Bible for you to read each day with a little study. These are interesting and easy to understand.
Going to church is very important for a Christian. If you don't you will probably feel very isolated and it will be quite hard for you to maintain your relationship with God.The most important thing is for you to have a personal relationship with God.Going to church encourages you in your faith and other Christians are great to hang about with.
It is not just as simple as believing in God then you go to heaven. You need to do the following three steps.
1.Repentance(I've already explained about that)
2.Baptism-this must be full immersion-being ducked under water-not sprinkling(The Bible is clear about this)It must be in Jesus name-The Bible says in the name of the Father, son and holy Ghost-the name of these is Jesus.
3.Filling with the Holy Spirit-You just have to pray for this.It is a gifft from God and if you pray you will recieve it.The evidence of this is that you will speak in tongues. This is a language that you have never been taught-it sounds strange but it's nothing to be scared of.The Holy Spirit will help through your Christian life-It is sort of your conscience, your guide.
Going to Heaven is a free gift,if you repent and be baptised you will recieve this gift. The Holy spirit may come as soon as you have been baptised or even before that.
The U.P.C.I is a good website to go on and they will explain what we believe in.I attend a U.P.C church in England.
Hope this helps you xx

There are many ways to become a christian. Try being a self righteous pain in the ****, being stupid, shallow and hypocritical. Try standing in a busy mall near some public benches and spouting forth generous quantities of verbal diarea and audio pollution about a subject which is boring, has no grounding in logic and is calculated to piss everyone off so that you can substantially ruin the quiet rest which the shoppers on the benches would have had if you had not come along.

Perhaps you could start a war or murder someone who has different beliefs from you. Tell every one else that they will rot in the burning fires of hell while you sit at the feet of God.

Join a church that is obscenely wealthy while others starve or abuse some children.

These are all time honoured methods of becoming Christian.

To become a Christian, you simply accept the free gift of salvation provided by Jesus Christ's death on the cross and resurrection. All sin and are separated from God. God wants to be in fellowship with you. Jesus paid the price of your sin (and all sins) when He died. Accept the free gift, repent (turn away from) sin. That's it. You don't have to go to church, but it is a very helpful thing to do. Surrounding yourself with fellow believers helps you to grow, learn, love. Reading the Bible is great - it is God's love letter to us. Prayer is important - conversation between you and God - just remember to listen as well as talk in prayer. That's it.

A good start is to first study the Bible. Usually it is best to study the Bible progressively, beginning with basic teachings. (Hebrews 6:1) As you continue, you will be better able to take in “solid food”—that is, deeper truths. (Hebrews 5:14) The Bible is the authority. Bible-based publications, such as the book, 'What Does The Bible Really Teach?', will help you to understand Scriptural references on a variety of subjects.

Perhaps you have tried to read the Bible but found it hard to understand. Maybe you do not know where to look in the Bible to find answers to your questions. If so, you are not alone. All of us need help in understanding God’s Word. Jehovah’s Witnesses, in some 235 lands, provide free Bible instruction to millions of people. They would be happy to help you too.

A Bible study can usually be arranged at a time and place convenient to you. Many study in the privacy of their own home. Some even study over the telephone. The study program is, not a class with many people, but a private arrangement tailored to your personal circumstances, including your level of knowledge and education. There are no examinations, and you will not be made to feel embarrassed. Your Bible questions will be answered, and you will learn how to draw close to God.
You do not have to pay for such a Bible study. (Matthew 10:8) It is offered free of charge to people of all religions and to those who practice no religion but who are sincerely interested in increasing their knowledge of God’s Word.

Who can share in the discussion? Your entire family. Any friends that you choose to invite may also share. Or if you prefer, the discussion can be held with just you. Many set aside an hour each week to study the Bible. If you are able to spend more time or are limited to less time each week, the Witnesses will make themselves available to help you.

To your QUESTION: "can you just simply believe the Bible and about Jesus and go to heaven?" In otherwards, if we personally read the Bible, is that sufficient?

It is true that many people can learn a great deal by reading the Bible personally. If their motive is to learn the truth about God and his purposes, what they are doing is highly commendable. (Acts 17:11) But, being honest with ourselves, are we truly going to grasp the full significance of it all without help? The Bible tells about a man who held a prominent position but who was humble enough to acknowledge his need for help in understanding Bible prophecy. That help was provided by a member of the Christian congregation.—Acts 8:26-38; compare other references to Philip in Acts 6:1-6; 8:5-17.

Of course, if a person reads the Bible but does not apply it in his life, it does him little good. If he believes it and acts on it, he will associate with God’s servants in regular congregation meetings. (Heb. 10:24, 25) He will also join with them in sharing the “good news” with other people.—1 Cor. 9:16; Mark 13:10; Matt. 28:19, 20.

Kierkegaard (Danish,Dead) said there are probably as many types of Christianity as there are Christians. I don't believe you have to go to church, its more about who the real you is inside. Even our actions are sometimes not understood. But to know yourself, is a step nearer to understanding others. All religions have their good and bad points, so be open to all.
