Since this is a Yahoo! forum, I assume you are asking about "proprietary" which means that the owner of an object, like software, limits the access it gives to users. For example, Joe would not share his homework with Bill, because he considered it proprietary. In a software context, you might say, "Microsoft Windows' source code is proprietary; Microsoft will not give the entire source code to software developers."
