I have a black dell, not flat screen. Im not good at explaining it. Anyway, I plugged the light green wire (the one for the speaker) into the place it is supposed to go in the back of my tower. I tried to listen to different things and it didnt work. I know that they are on the right volume and that they are plugged in and on. BTW the speakers i have came with the computer). But i no the speakers work because when i plug them into my Ipod, they work fine. Maybe there is something wrong with where i plgged them in. PLease help! Thanxx!!!

could be a few different things. First - simplest fix - make sure that the volume control/mute in Windows is set appropriately; doesn't matter if you have the volume on the speakers all the way up if it's down in windows. Second - could be a problem with your sound card, physically damaged or driver issues; check it in your control panel to see if it's functioning correctly. Third - if it's something else you're probably better off getting a professional to work on it.

let's make some assumptions first. that there's nothing wrong with the hardware (PC & sound card) because it's hard for something to go wrong these days

if plugging in your speakers into the back speaker connector doesnt work, check if there is an equivalent connector in the front panel of your PC box. if the front connector works but the other doesn't, it could be that the back connector you plugged into is the wrong one. compare the front and back connectors to make sure they are identical. if they are, and the back one doesn't work, call Dell

If the front connector for speakers doesn't work either, you have an issue with the software configuration. check the speaker volume level and if you have muted the speakers:
start->settings->control panel->sounds and audio devices
check the device volume & speaker volume settings

beyond that, give Dell support a call.
