i know its probably stupid for me to ask but im a little confused.

It only means they have your name and address.

Everyone receives those offers. Most throw them away as junk mail.

I usually open them up, remove my personal information, and stuff the prepaid envelopes with other junk mail I receive.

This is also called a pre-approved credit offer. They are not the scabbiest but not the best, as the credit card companies intend to shake off their unpopular cards to duffers who believe in anything sent to them.Somewhere in the Net I found a point o'view: oh, you are approved!(is it because you are so nice and reliable?) - probably you have been approved since your birth?!! - think about it...

Means that the company made a "soft" inquiry on your credit. (A soft inquiry does not affect your credit score since they didn't get the rull report.) It also means based on your credit, you pre-qualify for credit with them. Depending on how your credit looks once they run a full report, you can get credit.
