It is actually quite simple. Grandiosity is a symptom of "mania" (often accompanied with psychosis) and believing one's self to be God is the fullest expression of it. If religion or theism were not part of the cultural vocabulary, such a person might claim to be immortal, a prize fighter, etc.

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying ask, but I can guarantee you that most mentally ill people are not seeking treatment from a religious based organization, nor are they fixated on some religious theme. I myself, have Bipolar Disorder and other mental illnesses. Let me assure you that I have absolutely no religious fixation nor do religious themes cause mental illness. I would suggest you contact a clinical mental illness treatment center for the correct information.

Well, hearing and seeing imaginary friends seems pretty insane to me! Getting a good idea to do something good for someone is one thing, but to hear a voice from heaven or seeing visions of someone in cheese toast and believing that some imaginary friend is influencing you is insanity. These "voices" often get people to do evil things as well as good things.

People who are mentally ill think something is possessing their bodies and they hear voices no one else can hear...religious people think that. This is sort of like what came first...mental illness or religion? The chicken or the egg?

Either mentally ill people aren't mentally ill at all...just very dedicated spiritual people who get messages from God or....

Religious people are mentally ill and are just hearing voices. I don't think both can be true.

Should we let the schizophrentics go or lock up religious people? Either way, the world sure seems insane, doesn't it?

I have seen people who suffer from depression turn to spirituality, perhaps to enable them to cope with their situation. However the really hardened psychos; the ones we need to be worried about, not so much the case. Criminal psychotics are disconnected; thus having no conscious or nothing to answer to. These are the ones that scare me.

Because mental illness and serious spiritual oppression run hand in hand. Someone, opens a door, either that person or someone who is in that lineage, and a decieving spirit oppresses that person, until they are destroyed. In this era it is common for people to have all sorts of sinful behavior, and they have no idea what they have opened up for themselves, and sadly, because of unbelief, that are in no wise way of being equipped to deal with it.

Basically, it is very easy to be decieved, and the enemy knows this. Also, many churches don't have any real authority over the enemy, because they lack true Apostolic Authority, basically, they can't trace themselves to any Apostles, who were given the authority over the enemy. So, those who oppressed can not find any help. People may pray, but the oppressor knows who has real authority over him, and he won't leave.

So basically, you have an oppressed person, and hardly anyone around has the authority to unoppress them.

Usually it isn't mental illness and the person read the book for the first time and caught it's real gist. Apart from the bogus religionists. In some cases that could happen.

I heard of some Schizophrenics believing that they have conversations with God. I guess it is because they are so delusional. I actually met someone like that, it was really sad. It is a horrible illness.

Because there is a spiritual emptiness in each of us that only a relationship with God can fill. Mental Illness brings out that emptiness.

This is a really funny question and the answers are even more so. Unless one can heal the blind, they have no grounds, mental illness may also be caused by no grounds.

They're stuck in a loop. They latch on to things.

The most common delusions, however, are hearing voices.

It is also possible it is possession.

After 100+ years no one knows what lunacy is, nor how to cure it. They just like keeping pharmacuitcal companies in business.
