It will when the people read chapter 8 in the history about Texas, and Southwest land grab, and the government of Mexico encourage Anglos to settle in those areas. Also, the reason for the land grab was a vision in the early 19th for manifest Density well that occurred by the end on the century. Mexicans come and go for the 140 years this immigration debate is a joke government will spend billions to secure the southern border and the Border Patrol agents will be getting bigger bribes to turn a cheek, and the government cherry picks which immigrants to deport and stay. Real reform doesn't start with Amnesty, and other political pandering goodies. It means accepting the circular flow of Mexican migration occurring for the last 150 years. Start with tax reform that does not depend on income tax move over to a sales tax base where if they were illegal they are paying in anyways. Citizenship showed be based on Values like Common Law, Freedom, knowing the English language to be a full fedge citizen. Allow them to work in America, but no Amnesty for cheap political purposes. Work with Mexico to harmionzie social and tax regulation schemes, and labor laws so that taxpayer drain is shared by Mexico. Its a bilateral solution needed not unilated thinking will slove the Mexican immigration problems. Language barrier is not the problem as much is the taxpayer feels thier getting taken to the cleaners this requires as stated above a bilateral solution.

If foreigners come here they have to learn English just like if you travel to other countries you're expected to learn their language it's got to be a give or take thing. Yes, America is slowly becoming bi-lingual, but English is still the main language here that many foreigners are learning because they can't do much on their own language since most places print stuff in Spanish French, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Polish. You're starting to see a lot of immigration laws being established to make getting a citizenship here very hard since so many foreigners are coming over illegally which makes it hard for this country to keep track of who comes over our borders. They can come all they want, but they have to obey the laws and policies upon getting their citizenship to live in the United States.

There are chinese-americans, mexican-americans, arab-americans, polish-americans, french-americans, etc. etc. this country is alreay a multi-lingual country. On one side of my family they speak arabic, on the other side of my family they speak english, german, french, and indian. I personally think that it is personal choice of which language you choose to speak. This country is a melting pot of nationalities. Everyone dresses differently, everyone speaks differently. I don't hear of anyone complaining about the way people in the south speak with their southern drawls or the way people in boston enunciate their "r's". Why complain about the way someone speaks. The english language is the hardest language to learn with the many different ways a word sounds but is spelled the same or sounds the same but spelled differently. How one word can have many different meanings. No wonder people coming here can't learn the language.
I went through and read some of the answers here, the US is not going to disappear just because someone speaks a different language. I have worked with mexicans that were here working on a visa. They have told me that the reason that they don't learn the language is because it is to hard for them to learn it. As I explained in the paragraph above is the reason that people of all nationalities have a difficult time learning it. It is easy for us because we were taught from birth how to speak it. If you visit another country you are not expected to speak their language. Face it anyone coming here, whether from mexico or any other country will speak their own language until they learn to speak english. You can not expect anyone who comes here to already know the language unless they were taught from birth. And why is that everyone is assuming that the only people who come here that can't speak english are from mexico. I know some naturalized citizens that can not speak the language and they have been here for 15yrs. and they are not mexicans either. They teach other languages in schools and have done that for years, this country has been multi-lingual since it was founded. The indians who were here first did not demand that we learn their language or cultures. I think that you could actually learn a lot from people who come here from other countries. Now I am not promoting illegal entrance into this country but those that come here legally still have a hard time learning the language. As for people who come here and get everything for free (welfare, WIC, etc.), it isn't only them. There are people who were born here and their parents were born here that refuse to work and live off welfare so it isn't only immigrants. I am passionate about this country and I too believe that there has to be a way to keep people from coming here illegally however it doesn't mean that if they come here that they are demanded to speak english. By the way our language isn't truely english, it is a mixture of west germanic language, french and latin. Our grammar is the only thing that comes from the Old English language. So in a sense we already speak in multi-lingual terms.

I have no problem with anyone speaking Spanish or any other language if they want to. The problem I have is that when they come over here and choose to continue speaking their native language and then expect us (taxpayers) to foot the bill to make it easier for them. I do not want to pay for things in several languages. I should not have to pay for an interpreter and documents. They have chosen not to learn English, then they should pay for anything that happens because of their choice. It just make since for everyone to learn English.
It's true that no matter the law, people will break them (duh) but of course we will keep rounding them up and send them back. It is going to get harder and harder for them to cross the border illegally.
We do embrace 'legal immigrants'. That's what makes us a strong country. It's the illegal immigrants that make us angry. They use our resources and don't pay anything for them. Why shouldn't we be angry. Also expecting us to make them legal 'just because' just adds fuel to the fire. They should go through the immigrant system like everyone else.

Americans seem to be the minority now. No one is asking immigrants to give up their launguage and customs, just try to learn and adapt since they came here for a better life. I come from a family of Italian and German immigrants and we all learned english and the others if we wanted to.

All the other groups that ever came here LEARNED English. Good God, the same is true today of almost all the people coming here EXCEPT the mexicans. Note that I say only the mexicans as there are other Hispanic groups that come here and they will learn English. The mexicans do not because they don't think they have to due to people like your self who are so willing to roll over for them.

If Spanish becomes another language of the U.S. and everyone just shrugs and says that's okay.... then what about the Italians, Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, French, etc. who come into the U.S.?
They're going to see we did nothing about Spanish invading our land, so they will just keep speaking German, Italian, Japanese, etc. and then no two Americans will even undertand each other.
Why is it only Spanish speaking people get away with not learning English? If everyone is speaking their own language then the U.S. will just disappear. No one will be able to even read the Constitution.
Is that what you want? Do you want the U.S. to disappear?
