my pumpkin pie recipe calls for 1 cup of whiskey. Can anyone recommend a whiskey that is particularly good to use in a dessert dish like pumpkin pie.

Old Grand Dad, Old Crow, Jack Daniels... maybe Jim Beam. A good rule of thumb for using alcohol in recipes is to use something that you would want to drink on its own. Maybe an alternative substitute would be Southern Comfort or a dark spiced rum.

Crown Royal----The 1 cup of Whiskey is for you to drink....

OLGA's PUMPKIN PIE:
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree, canned or fresh
1 2/3 cups evaporated milk (I use 1 (12oz.) can)
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 unbaked pastry shell (9-inch)
Combine sugar, salt, and spices in a large mixing bowl. Add pumpkin, evaporated milk, and eggs; mix well. Pour into pastry-lined pie pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Shield the crust edge with a pie shield ring or fashion one with aluminum foil and place over edge. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 40 minutes or until center is set.

One you like to drink.
I am not a fan of the sour mash varieties, so I would choose a blended bourbon.
Black Velvet is an inexpensive bourbon but smooth ~ I'll drink it on the rocks.
Kesslers is a Whiskey that I enjoy. Many bars use this in the well.
Wild Turkey is good and the bottle is a cute Thanksgiving addition to your bar.

Jack Daniels is the best for adding to ingredients. Whiskey is from Ireland and Whisky is from Scotland.

Everyone knows the alcohol evaporates in heat, right? So, what you're looking for is going to be the residual taste-the flavor that's gonna be imprinted. I'd say Maker's Mark. Jack Daniels is great for barbeque sauce, but it's something about that charcoal filtering... Southern comfort's great as well. An added plus is that it's already sweet in flavor! Have fun & whatever you don't use, send to me!

Canadian Club if it's available to you.
If not, I'd suggest Jim Beam.
