Wellbutrin should NOT cause or contribute to weight gain. This same drug has been marketed under another trade name, as a diet pill. That being said, yes it is possible one might have an unusual reaction to ANY drug where body weight could be gained.
As for side effects, I was a little nervous and jumpy. My heart seemed to be racing so I discontinue it. For many others, this seems to be a good drug for short term use.

I was using Wellbutrin for almost 4 weeks. I originally using Paxil and Seroquel for my bipolar disorder. I had to have 5 bypasses put in for my heart because of a 2 pack/day smoking habit. My surgeon switched me from Paxil to Wellbutrin to help me quit smoking. It helps soften the cravings and withdrawl symptoms. Wellbutrin is the exact same as Zyban the stop smoking aid. I have seen some weight gain though not much. What weight I have gained may be due to the surgery and increased appitite or more likely the other drugs I am taking. I am back on my Paxil now.
Here is a list of possible side effects.

Wellbutrin is ok, I used to be on effexor earlier than and I hated it...made me consider in poor health and dizzy. I am on Wellbutrin for PTSD and to complement my meds for ADD. I have not had a trouble with Wellbutrin, despite the fact that my pal's father had a few seizures from it.

Wellbutrin is very unlikely to cause weight gain. I've been on it for about 8 years (along with other meds) and it's been quite helpful with almost no side effects whatsoever. In the very beginning, I lost my appetite and at a high dose (of 450 mg) I had hot flashes. For me personally, it's a very good medication.
It's true there is a seizure risk with it ( not a terribly high risk, but the risk increases with the dosage), which is why they do not recommend it for people with seizure disorders or people that drank regularly who have abruptly quit drinking.
The same medication (bupropion) is also sold as Zyban, to help people quit smoking.
