I'm a senior in high school who has had braces for the past few months. I love them, but my mother isn't as thrilled. I like to experiment with the color of my bands, and I most recently had blue ones put on (not an offensive blue, a sort of teal shade.) The only 'problem' is, I've just been scheduled for college interviews, and I won't be able to get back to the orthodontist before then. My mom thinks that having these blue bands will kill my chances of having a good interview. So, I'm wondering:
A. Do you think having 'colorful' braces will affect my chances of getting into a school? If you have/had braces, do/did people treat you differently because of them, and if so, was the attention negative? Most of my friends love them, but I'm not sure how admissions counselors will feel.
B. Is there any way to fade the color of my bands?
Thanks!

Braces are a medical device, so no I dont think they would ruin your chances. Schools really on pay attention to grades and activites you have done anyway. Now if you had 100 pierces and tattoos that would be one thing but to have a bad interview over a medical device you are trying to "spruce up" with color, well that i just stupid, no one cares

Its defiantly going to hurt alot but i don't think you'll have swelling or talk funny. When i got them on , it didn't affect my speech at all. The only thing i'd be careful about is when u talk because if you touch your teeth together it will hurt really bad. It hurts for about 2 weeks, then your mouth will get used to the braces. My advice to you is eat alot of potato's and drink those breakfast anytime drinks or meal replacement drinks, just make sure there not the weight gaining kind lol no need for that. But ya, i'd say get them on and see how you feel, if you really think u cant manage a interview, then call and ask for another date. but i think u can do it, the day after i got mine on, i had a similar interview for school as well, it goes fast so its not a big ordeal. Im due to get mine off soon, good luck with everything!!

I have braces and I dont think this will affect your interview. And teal is a pretty color, I mean I could MAYBE see if you had black or something (because dark colors dont usually mix with the color of your teeth) But you should be fine. Dont worry about it. The people that are interviewing have probably seen lots of people who have braces. Good luck at your interview!!

Colleges are not allowed to discriminate on looks (whether or not they do is a whole different story), so I wouldn't worry. The color of your braces has nothing to do with grades, personality, or anything important in the college application process. Don't worry about it, just be yourself during the interview and it will go great!

A. No. Colleges will not discriminate against you for having braces on your teeth with blue bands. Your interview will be based on you not your braces.
B. No. Don't worry about the blue bands.
Good luck!

TO FADE THE COLOR.SADLY NO. THESE BANDS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THE BRACKETS ARE MADE OF SPECIAL SILICONE RUBBER. THEY ARE IMPERVIOUS TO MOST CHEMICALS USED TO WHITEN TEETH.
ADMISSION COUNSELORS ARE ADULTS AND DO NOT MAKE DECISIONS ON WHO GETS IN BASED ON THE COLOR OF YOUR BRACES.=0)

i would say not to listen to your mom, because they're just braces - it most likey won't affect your interview
