I was sitting in the car listening to the radio when I was pregnant with my first son. My husband had run into work to grab something. "I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You" by Savage Garden came on. I know it is a love song but it just seemed so fitting. It expressed how I was feeling about this baby I was waiting to meet. I already loved him and he wasn't even here yet. Whenever I hear it I smile and think of that pregnancy. He is six now. Here are the lyrics:

Maybe it’s intuition
Somethings you just don’t question
Like in your eyes
I see my future in an instant
And there it goes
I think I’ve found my best friend
I know that it might sound
More than a little crazy
But I believe...
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I have been waiting
All my life
There's just no rhyme or reason
Only a sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I’m searching for
I think I’ve found my way home
I know that it might sound
More than a little crazy
But I believe
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I have been waiting
All my life
A thousand angels dance around you
I am complete
Now that I have found you
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I have been waiting
All my life
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you
Before I met you
I have been waiting
All my life

For my second son, who is 3 yr. old, I have "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts. I was just really listening to the lyrics one day and he was sitting in the kitchen watching me cook and I realized that the lyrics were something I really wished for him..and my other son as well. But my oldest I don't worry about as much. It made me cry because they lyrics are perfect and really sum up what a parent hopes for their children. So whenever I play the CD and he is in the room I sing to him and he says, "Mom, stop that!!"
Here are the lyrics:

I hope that days come easy
and moments pass slow,
and each road leads you
where you want to go,
and if you're faced with a choice,
and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one
that means the most to you.
and if one door opens to another
door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin'
till you find the window,
if it's cold outside,
show the world the warmth of your smile,
more then anything, more then anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life
becomes all that you want it,
to your dreams stay big,
and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more
then you can hold,
and while you're out there
getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you,
and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I hope you never look back,
but ya never forget,
all the ones who love you,
in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive,
and you never regret,
and you help somebody
every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace,
in every mistake,
and you always give more then you take.
Oh More then anything, Yeah,
and more then anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life
becomes all that you want it,
to your dreams stay big,
and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more then you can hold,
and while you're out there
getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you,
and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

Celine Dion's Miracle. We made a video with pictures to this song and it made everyone in our family cry.

You're my life's one Miracle,
Everything I've done that's good
And you break my heart with tenderness,
And I confess it's true
I never knew a love like this till you....

You're the reason I was born
Now I finally know for sure
And I'm overwhelmed with happiness
So blessed to hold you close
The one that I love most
With all the future has so much for you in store
Who could ever love you more?

The nearest thing to heaven,
You're my angel from above
Only God creates such perfect looooove

When you smile at me, I cry
And to save your life I'll die
With a romance that is pure heart,
You are my dearest part
Whatever it requires,
I live for your desires
Forget my own, needs will come before
Who could ever love you more?

Well there is nothing you could ever do,
To make me stop, loving you
And every breath I take,
Is always for your sake
You sleep inside my dreams and know for sure
Who could ever love you more?

Beautiful Boy by Celine Dion is the song we are going to use this year.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy

Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monster's gone,
He's on the run
And your mummy's here.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy,
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy.

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It's getting better and better,

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy (Beautiful boy),
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy.

Out on the ocean, sailing away
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient
Cause it's a long way to go,
A hard row to hoe
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime...

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you while you're busy making other plans...

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy(Beautiful boy),
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy (Boooooooy)

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy,
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy,
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy,
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy,
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Boy....

I think to have a song--it just kind of comes along naturally.

When my son was first born I was really depressed as my husband was away so I would sing him "Cheer Up Sleepy Jean" to bed at night. We'd also listen to a lot of Beatles and John Lennon songs--"Let It Be", "In My Life", "Love", and so many more. I'd just start singing and wouldn't ever stop.

Music is our thing---it's always been our thing. Even at nine months when I sing him "Cheer Up Sleepy Jean" he smiles and knows it is something special.

Best of luck on finding your song--no one can tell you what it should be--you'll find it on your own!

I don't know about songs specifically about 2 young children, but I do love the song "In My Arms" by Plumb. I played it to my daughter when she was in my tummy and it Still calms her down in the car on trips and she is 14 months old.

This is what i sung to my boy when he was a baby, i changed the part about writing home everyday to email everyday, just to put my own spin on it......(it's a Beatles song)

Close your eyes, and i'll kiss you,
Tomorrow i'll miss you,
But you know that i'll always be true,
And then while i'm away,
I'll write home(emails!)everyday,
And i'll send all my lovin' to you.

He used to giggle everytime i sang the emails part!!!!

Cheers.

Que sera, sera

When I was just a little boy, I asked my mother what would I be
Would I be famous (handsome)?
Would I be rich?
Here's what she said to me:

(Chorus)
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera

When I was just a child in school, I asked my teacher what should I do?
Should I paint pictures?
Should I sing songs?
This was her wise reply:

(Chorus)

When I grew up and fell in love, I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead?
Wiill there be rainbows,
Day after day?
Here's what my sweetheart said:

(Chorus)

Now've I've a baby of my own and when she asks me
"What will I be?"
"Will I be pretty?"
"Will I be rich?"
I reply tenderly:

(Chorus)

With each of my children I made up a song to sing to them about how I feel about them when I hold them or see them. I know that sounds corny, but when you are up with them and tired, you run out of things to sing. Or if you have a nickname for your child, sing a song that relates to that. For example....One of my twins is name Andrew and we call him Drew Bear. He loves the song The Wiggles sing called Rock a Bye Bear.

Hands in the air, rock a bye bear
Bears now asleep, SHh Shh Shh

Or I always say bear goes to sleep. Whenever he is really tired and wants to be rocked, I sing that and he goes straight to sleep with a little smile on his face.

Another goodie is Child of Mine
