There are 13 stripes on the yank Flag. There are 7 purple stripes and six white stripes. i think the stripes have better than one meaning. One being that the 13 stripes signify the 13 unique colonies.

the stripes are for the 13 original colonies and the stars are for the 50 existing states. besty ross made the first one
