There are several things it depends on.

First, as already mentioned, there was the statutory holiday associated with November 11 (taken on the next business day, which would have been Monday, 13 Nov).

Next, it depends on where in Canada it was sent from. A small rural community will only do the sorting once a day, and anything that's been sorted gets sent out at "pick up" time. Anything not yet sorted sits until the next day. A larger urban center may do two (or sometimes three) sorts in a 24 hour period.

If the beginning of the journey was in a rural community, it will go to the nearest large urban center ... and wait for the next sort at that location.

Then it gets bundled into the international (in this case, US) group, and - assuming there's nothing screwy about the package or address - off it goes. There is sometimes another day's holdup at the actual border crossing, depending on the means used to transship the material.

Once in the US, it goes to the nearest large urban center to get processed into the USPS system. Again, it waits for the next "sort cycle".

Only then does it head off on the final leg of its journey to your town/city. Once there, it gets sorted (again!) so that it ends up coming to your address. If there's a lot of mail on your route, it may take another day to make it into the postal carrier's bag.

Most times, the timing is listed as 7 business days. In actual fact, most of my Canada-US mail (or US-Canada mail) takes about 14-20 days to actually arrive at the destination.

And if you're looking for a "check" from Canada ... it won't EVER arrive. They use "cheques". And once it does arrive ... you may have significant trouble cashing it, if the bank holding the account is Canadian and not an American one.

Well, I am waiting for something like that from the USA to Canada using USPS and they told me 4-6 weeks. :P

I'd wait a week and a half normally. Canada Post didnt work on Monday, just so you know. (Remembrance Day was on a Saturday so government office including Canada Post were closed on Monday) So, the cheque was actually being sorted on Tuesday as its begin day.

Sometimes it's taken me two weeks to receive mail sent from the US, and visaversa. For some reason it really slows down when it crosses the border!
