A briefer answer.

They are the same medicine, in different forms. The "CR" means "controlled release". In other words, the dose is release over time, not at once.

I haven't been on Paxil, but I've been on a couple of similar medications in the regular form and then the controlled release form and have found that the CR is much easier to go off of. For example, I had terrible withdrawal from Effexor, but not with the entended release formula. I would start feeling it if I was even an hour late on a dose with the immediate release type...did not have that happen with the other kind.

Paxil CR means, "controlled release". When your serotonin level gets low, the Paxil kicks in automatically. Basically if it "dips" during the day, that is why it's called "controlled release".

Never suddenly stop taking antidepressants. The use of any antidepressant should be tapered off slowly and only under the supervision of a health professional. Abruptly stopping antidepressant medications can cause negative side effects or a relapse into another depressive episode.

because they are both strong maio's before coming off of them should be done with a dr slowly.
