Do you remember your last immunization shots? It's not as bad as that, although it takes a few moments longer. So, no, it doesn't hurt but you will feel it. It's not a big needle and you won't feel the blood coming out.

I'm really freaked out by needles, too. The truth is that the anxiety is worse than actually getting it done. Keep in mind that it only takes a few seconds and that there are far worse things to be awake through. Getting your blood tested is a positive thing that renders important information. It's not like you are getting your teeth pulled, where you have to sit through the drilling, crunching and yanking at your jaw.

Just try to keep it in perspective.

Doesn't hurt much. It's not a big needle. And you will not feel any blood coming out.

If I were you I would tell the nurse of your phobia before you take the blood test so he or she can help calm you down.

If you find yourself starting to panic, focus on some deep, slow breathing. Breathe in through your nose to the count of five, out through your mouth to the count of five. Practice that and relax. The reason people faint when they panic is because they hyperventillate and hence aren't getting enough oxygen to their brain, so as long as you focus on your breathing, you've got everything under control.

Good luck to you.

I hate it when people sugar coat things, so here is what I know from lots of personal experience. First, no it won't hurt per say, but it will sting a little and you will feel the pressure from the needle. Try to take someone with you to hold your free hand, this really, really helps. If I have someone with me, I don't cry and I don't get as nervous, but when I am by myself, I cry, shake, squirm and get faint. Second, please, please tell the nurse/ drawer about your fear, by doing this they will be more gentil and easier on you. Third, ask to lay down immediately. This always helps me b/c I don't feel so faint, so I don't get quite as nervous. But, I am totally understanding of your fear, as I am exactly the same way. I will say a prayer for you. Also, take a couple of deep breaths and go in smiling, you'll never believe how much better a smile on your face will make you feel. Good luck, be brave and relax.

I've had a few blood tests. You might notice a pinching sensation, but if you relax and find something else to focus your attention on that's about it. The needles aren't really that big.

Relax! Sit down with the family and a few friends and watch a funny movie! Or read a good book.

I'm with you on the whole needle idea. Here's what you need to do-go in and sit down and immediately look away-don't ever look let the plembotomist do the talking. If you feel faint tell them and don't stand up too soon-take it easy for a few minutes.

just so you know i am speaking from experience. i have drawn other people blood and have given my self. the needle isn't as big as most people think. all you have to do is look away take a deep breath and by that time they are done, depending on the test. but if this is a scheduled test wont take long at all. don't worry about it its not as bad as you think.
